Department Overview

The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.

Position Summary

This position will supervise the North Valley , Electrical - Substation Construction Inspection group. The Substation Construction Inspection team is a department of Electric Transmission Operation's Substation Project Delivery and Engineering Organization. The Substation Construction Inspection group is responsible for the construction oversight and scheduling of electrical construction contractors on medium to large distribution and transmission substation projects in and around high voltage facilities throughout PG&E's service territory. This position will
be responsible for the North Valley area but is subject to change as workload dictates. The successful candidate will be supervising field employees and as such, will require jobsite visits at High Voltage Substations. Field visits will require the wearing of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including Flame Resistant (FR) clothing. This position may require overnight travel.


• 5 years of journey-level experience in Substation, Distribution or Construction
• High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma

• Extensive work experience with electrical designs, drawings and construction in a leadership position and/or leadership experience as a First Line Supervisor or other relevant rotational assignments.
• Ability to work with various computer applications including the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project) or other productivity or database software applications
• Strong written and oral communication skills


• Supervision & Leadership: Lead a team of PG&E employees and Contract Inspectors that provide oversight to Electrical contractors assigned to construction and retrofit work within PG&E substation facilities. Monitor all work performed to ensure quality and workmanship conform to Company standards. Ensure PG&E employees are properly trained and Contractors are fully qualified. Develop, monitor and adjust performance targets for employees. Identify development needs of employees and provide coaching and mentoring to improve their knowledge and skills.
• Work Management: Develop work schedules and resource allocation plans. Prioritize work in the Substation Construction Inspection group such that the maximum number of time commitments are made at the least cost. Forecast and request adequate manpower, material and equipment. Ensure jobs are completed in a timely and cost effective manner. Maintain and report progress and status of jobs being worked monthly. Analyze problems and implement cost effective solutions in a timely manner. Be knowledgeable of all Substation Safety and Design standards. Resolve disputes in an equitable and ethical manner. Monitor costs to minimize expenditures and variances.
• Teamwork & Customer Satisfaction: Build effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, workgroup, project management, engineering, construction, test, maintenance, Contractors and other groups. Interface with clients to promote excellent customer satisfaction. Ensure that customer's needs and expectations are met and ensure effective customer communications.
• Coaching & Development: Develop and maintain a qualified workforce that operates in full compliance with regulatory and Company requirements. Coach, mentor and develop employees.
Provide timely communication and feedback to employees and ensure all employees are aligned with the department's strategic priorities, goals and key initiatives.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure Company and Contract personnel comply with Company Safety Standards and with all laws, regulations, and Company policies, standards and bulletins. Provide
leadership to foster a safe work environment by observing and enforcing safe work practices. Review and accept contractors Sight Specific Safety Plans and conduct frequent site observations to ensure compliance of contractors with their safety protocols. Evaluate safety near hits and incidents and partner with contractors to develop remedies and corrective measures to eliminate hazards.
