Nuclear Safety Engineer - Hartlepool

The Nuclear Safety Group (NSG) is responsible for the oversight of Nuclear Safety Issues at the Station. The specific responsibilities of Nuclear Safety Group are essentially two-fold. Firstly they encompass the maintenance and development of the Station's Safety Case and demonstration of compliance with the case. This includes providing the licensing interface with the Office of Nuclear Regulator (ONR).

Secondly the Group has responsibility for various aspects of plant performance including the specification of fuel reloads, the monitoring and optimisation of overall plant efficiency and reactor physics.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake the role of a Reactor Physicist in the Emergency Scheme, following the completion of the training. This will necessitate the individual being on Standby.

The post-holder will be required to carry out a range of key tasks including:

  • Running Reactor Physics codes to model core behaviour.
  • Core Management - optimising reactor operating conditions.
  • Fuel Management- specifying fuel reloads, optimising the long term refuelling strategy and fuel ordering to meet these requirements.
  • Monitoring and Trending of plant data.
  • Providing technical support and advice to Operations staff.
  • Provision of technical / reactor physics data in support of Station safety cases.
  • Provision of reactor physics related performance indicators.
  • Input to development of Safety Cases.
  • Amendment of Safety Cases and Tech Specs using the Engineering Change Process.
  • Applicants should be qualified to minimum of HNC or equivalent in a relevant subject.
