The Wind Advanced Technologies team is responsible for providing technical leadership in conceptualizing and maturing new technologies, products, and services that will reduce the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) for wind energy.

Essential Responsibilities

The Electrical, Senior Engineer, Wind Advanced Technologies will be a member of the Controls, Loads, and Electrical team with a focus on advancements in power electronics. Emerging technologies in power electronics will require broad knowledge of turbine and farm power flow, collaboration with the GE Global Research Center product acceleration labs, prototype testing in labs or field units, and deploying as part of a next generation serial product. Ownership of product and program management tasks will support successful translation of New Technology Introductions (NTI) into fleet solutions via New Product Introduction (NPI) development cycles. Industry awareness and technical justification will be the basis for developing technology roadmaps for onshore wind energy in the power electronics application space.

As the Electrical, Senior Engineer, Wind Advanced Technologies, you will:
• Evaluate and lead power path trade-off studies of generator, converter, transformer, power cables, protection systems for future wind turbine platforms
• Evaluate and lead balance of plant trade-off studies for managing low and medium voltage power transmission from the wind turbine to the grid interconnect
• Lead system-level design concept studies that will seek to optimize electrical system design for cost, performance, and reliability
• Interface with Converter, Generator and Grid Solutions teams to comprehend requirements and demonstrate opportunities to impact overall electrical system and support translation to serial production
• Work cross-functionally with multiple teams (Product Line, Systems, Center of Excellence, Global Research Center) to identify and develop new technology, perform trade-off studies, and demonstrate capability to deliver cost out
• Be recognized as a domain expert in the subject area of power electronics and contributes to initiatives related to fleet performance, new product launches, and intellectual property assessments


• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical or Computer or related degree) from an accredited college or university
• Minimum of 5 years engineering experience in power generation, aerospace, or automotive industries

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

• Master's Degree or above in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering
• Green Belt or equivalent quality certification
• Experience in performing system-level design and analysis of rotating machines, power electronics, power cables, transformers, and other related power equipment
• Experience in semi-conductor technology and new advancements in integrated circuit technology with Silicon and other additives
• Experience with low and medium voltage systems and hardware topology for transmission, protection, and monitoring
• Experience with electrical safety analysis and standards including arc flash, lightning protection, system grounding, and NEC / NFPA
• Experience with simulation tools such as Saber, PSCAD, or similar industry tools
• Experience with validation and data acquisition tools such as FAMOS, Matlab, or similar industry tools
• Experience with translating product requirements to system-level technical requirements
• Experience in project management tasks ranging from strategic scope definition, tactical execution, management report outs, and multi-generational planning
• Experience in renewable energy or power generation technology in all of the above is preferred
• Ability to work in a cross-functional, global environment and lead matrixed teams
• Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to influence stakeholders throughout the organization
• Well versed at applying critical thinking skills when performing problem analysis and defining resolution tasks
