Vestas is looking for an Engineering Specialist and Technical Lead for blade manufacturing equipment and machinery, Vestas Manufacturing A/S, Isle of Wight (UK) or Lem (DK).

The role involves driving the department forward together with the management and other technical leads. You will be responsible and accountable for defining, developing and realizing the Tooling Technology Road Map through blade technology projects, and you will be the one assuring that Vestas stays at the forefront of blade prototype development and full scale manufacturing solutions.

Manufacturing and Global Sourcing/ Blades/ Production Engineering/ Blades Tooling Development & Support
Blades Tooling Development and Support is responsible for the development of manufacturing solutions for blades production for wind turbines, as well as prototype technology projects. It is also the single point of contact for technical support for the global blades manufacturing footprint of Vestas factories. The tooling team is a project oriented team delivering both to new product developments and supporting our blades factories around the world during installation of new blade production lines, and during running production. The department is present both in Lem (DK) and in Isle of Wight (UK).

The role as Engineering Specialist and Technical Lead requires close collaboration with our colleagues both inside Production Engineering in Blades, with the Blade Development function, and with our colleagues in the blades factories. Focus is placed on understanding critical parameters to quality and vital needs from across the business of developing, designing and manufacturing wind turbine blades.
The types of machines and equipment within the tech lead areas cover a vast range of industry disciplines.

  • Lifting and transport equipment for heavy and complex loads
  • Positioning and assembly stations and solutions for blade component assembly
  • Heating systems for processing composite and epoxy materials

  • Advanced automatic manufacturing solutions (robot-cells, glass winding machines, etc.)
  • Composite drilling, grinding and sanding machines
  • Large steel and aluminium tools for composite manufacturing

Your work will primarily cover:
  • Leading the Tooling design process together with project management and the Tooling Lead Engineers.
  • Taking full ownership and accountability for you Tech Lead area, cradle to grave.
  • Ensure Tooling design quality through executing DFMEA and following design for six sigma principles.
  • Ensure alignment and fundamental understanding across blade design, material design, process design, -tooling design and the total impact to the business of manufacturing cost competitive blades.
  • Empowering, coaching and mentoring junior engineers.

  • Master's Degree in Engineering (electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, manufacturing, process, etc.) or equivalent extensive working experience.
  • Several years of experience with developing and designing innovative mechanical, composite and/or process engineering solutions
  • Good appreciation of Six Sigma
  • Experienced with mentoring and coaching junior engineers
  • Basic knowledge of CE marking, Risk Assessement and machinery directive requirements
