Information Systems Technology Services is a unified organization comprised of various departments which collaborate effectively in order to deliver high quality technology solutions.

Position Summary

Position may be located in San Ramon, Concord, or Fairfield. Possesses a broad knowledge of all layers of Telecom technologies including layer 1 to layer 7. The IT Solutions Engineer job family provides technical leadership in design, development and Operations and maintenance of IP network systems infrastructure. The IT Solutions Engineer duties include the assessment and optimization of system design and review of implemented solutions to ensure requirements and standards are followed. Provides technical direction to network engineers on operational incidents and performance issues. Represents Systems and Network Operations in architectural meetings to determine technical and operational feasibility of solutions that are integrated with the existing or defined IT network architecture and services standards, to meet clearly defined technical performance requirements. Leads a team of subject matter experts to review and assess risk from proposed changes. Develops prototypes of the system design and works with database, operations, technical support and other IT areas as appropriate within the Operations organization in order to improve IP network system resilience and reliability. Also, partners with IT Network/Solutions Architecture teams technical leadership to ensure that design, development, and testing activities conform to the Operational requirements. Minimum Qualifications
• Cisco Certified Network Professional or Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert or Equivalent Experience.
• BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related discipline or equivalent experience or technical training.
• Requires 10 years of progressive, related experience or any combination of education and experience.
• Extensive experience working within multi-tier enterprise architecture environments.
• Expert in enterprise scale router, switch, firewall, load balancer and common services architecture.
• Advanced knowledge of network services like MPLS or Multicast.
• Expert knowledge and experience working with multiple protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, etc.)
• Experience with network monitoring tools & test equipment.
• Extensive experience with change management and excellent documentation skills.
• Must have advanced knowledge of Cisco product line and/or service.
• Advanced knowledge of operating or network systems and maintenance support
• Ability to evaluate existing and proposed systems and recommend upgrades and/or modifications.
• Advanced knowledge of system management and security/control procedures
• Able to work and communicate across multiple departments.
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

• Master Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related discipline or equivalent experience or technical training
• 15 years of network or telecommunications operations or implementation experience
• Certification applicable to the system being supported.
• Ability to research and survey new products and/or releases (e.g., productivity tools)
• Able to establish and document operations procedures
• Able to work and communicate across multiple departments.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Solid knowledge of key PG&E systems and processes.


Network Project Delivery Support:
• Work safely following Company Safety Standards and Guidelines.
• Integral to Plan, Build and Run components of network systems and peripherals architecture with the goal to enhance network operations.
• Participate in capacity and project planning process with IT teams.
• Responsible for architecture of critical infrastructure network components (e.g., routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, proxy servers, VPN concentrators, etc).
• Provides 4th tier support in analyzing, diagnosing and resolving problems, supporting the System and Network Operations.
• Work closely with other IT groups to ensure systems are designed within PG&E and industry best practices.
• Scheduled Network Changes/Maintenance: Provides method of procedure guidance and review of complex network changes,
• Participates in developing, recommending, and establishing policies and procedures as needed
• Provides technical training on network technologies as required/necessary.
• Provide 24/7 4th tier support for PG&E's 3rd tier support staff.

• Represents System and Network Operations in project planning and design meetings.
• Work closely with peers, supervisor, team members and others as needed to review project deliverables to ensure they follow operational standards and guidelines.
• Work closely with other team members to design detailed test plans for all new technology and evaluations of new technologies in a lab environment.

• Evaluate and articulate market needs and opportunities for technology-based products and Services in order to maintain operational resiliency.
• Provide guidance to IT professionals and application stakeholders in product implementation and functionality.
• Provide content-specific advice to peers and technical architects.

Compliance and Process Improvement:
• Assures compliance with industry and company standards.
• Continually look for and recommends opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, increase efficiencies, etc.
• Apply security procedures for all work.
• Recommend and implement process improvements in order to improve efficiencies.
• Assist other specialists, analysts and technicians as appropriate in developing their own technical skills through training, presentations and involvement in the process of maintaining and supporting these systems (installations, upgrades, troubleshooting, problem resolution, etc.).
• Create and maintain training class curriculum, conduct internal classes and coordinate vendor training.
