Job Description
Mechanical Engineer
Hutchinson, KS

Position overview
This senior level position involves supply chain support in North America and disposition of equipment at Hutchinson plant.   The successful candidate will develop technical knowledge of the Wind Turbine product line within Engineering, with emphasis on supporting the Supply Chain/Procurement group and Manufacturing related Engineering initiatives.

Functions/value added
Support of Supply chain in North America:
• Develop knowledge of assembly of Wind Turbine electrical and other components in Hutchinson plant.
• Educate workers in the Siemens product, clarify expectations for Siemens equipment.
• Lead vendor interpretation of the Siemens' product specifications and term definitions.
• Candidate must be able to communicate detailed technical issues clearly.
• Support Hutchinson Manufacturing plant, as a technical consultant for all Wind Turbine nacelles, power units, cooling units and other components assembled in North America.
• Support manufacturing Lean initiatives
• Disposition non-conforming equipment encountered during manufacture.
• Provide guidance to factory for new designs.
• Define expectations for Siemens equipment assembly.
• Support continued customer relationships
• Clarify technical concerns with Engineering and internal customers as needed.
• Definition of locally available materials, manufacturing standards and vendor interaction within North America.
• Support Brande/Orlando Engineering groups' interface with North American vendors for non-conforming equipment
• Support Orlando Engineering team for Project installation in Americas Region as needed.
*The department includes engineering responsibilities including interaction with Denmark Engineering groups and Technical Project Management Engineering teams.
*Assists in routine non-conforming material specification and appropriate follow-up.
*Provides assistance in preparing explanations and clarifies information to enable proper interpretation and evaluation of routine specifications, performance characteristics or other technical data.
*May assist in recommending routine new designs, new manufacturing processes, or design changes to enhance manufacturing efficiency.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
•BS in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university. Will also consider civil or industrial engineering
•Preferred experience or course work in the areas of equipment design and manufacture, electrical cabinet and interconnecting wiring assembly shop principles, and manufacturing methodology.
•This will provide an opportunity to grow fundamental skills and knowledge into advanced technical capabilities.
•Able to communicate routine technical and commercial issues clearly.
•5+ years of relevant experience
•Preferred experience or course work in the areas of equipment design and manufacture, machine shop principles, and construction site practices.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
•Knowledge of Siemens Wind Power Equipment Transportation methodology and Siemens Equipment Vendor interface experience beneficial. 5-7 years practical work experience desired.
Knowledge of Siemens equipment purchasing methodology and vendor incoming inspection methodology beneficial.
