Job Description
Senior Aerodynamic Blade Design Engineer / Wind R&D Engineer

Siemens Wind Power (SWP) is a dominant player in the global wind turbine market and maintains its position by offering state-of-the-art products made possible by a team of exceptional employees. SWP is currently seeking highly talented and motivated candidates for a senior Wind R&D Aerodynamic Blade Design Engineer position to help lead the technical development of our aerodynamics blade design team within the Blade Design Department in Boulder, Colorado.

The Boulder Center of Competence is responsible for all new blade designs at SWP and brings together a multi-disciplinary group of engineering experts in aerodynamics, acoustics, structures, loads, and controls that work concurrently to solve design and technology problems.

As a Senior Wind R&D Aerodynamic Blade Design Engineer, your primary tasks will cover:

• Providing technical leadership, oversight, analysis, and direction for our industry leading aerodynamic blade design team;
• Mentoring engineers and advising on aerodynamic and inter disciplinary design work on new blade product development;
• Developing new technologies to enable ever larger and more cost efficient rotors;
• Being an architect of the computational tools and methodologies of SWP's industry leading multi-fidelity/multi-objective/multi-disciplinary blade design optimization approach;
• Developing 'design models' at low and medium fidelity from theoretical derivation, algorithm definition, implementation, computational efficiency optimization, validation and final application;
• Performing and comparing computational aerodynamic analysis employing models across a wide range of fidelity levels: BEM, vortex lattice, panel methods, CFD, etc.;
• Conducting analysis and comparison of experimental data from wind tunnel and field measurements with computational models;
• Effectively communicating with global management and platform/turbine chief engineers to enable corporate and product decision making;
• Effectively interacting and collaborating with a diverse group of highly skilled, aerodynamics, structures, loads, acoustics, and controls engineers in a global, team-based environment.

Successful candidates are required to possess the following:

• Over 8 years of experience in the wind energy or aerospace industry or in a similar field;
• Master's or PhD degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering;
• Strong desire to be a hands-on technical expert that leads by example through mentorship and forward looking ideas;
• Ability to create innovative solutions and plan the future of aerodynamic blade design;
• Experience with advanced numerical methods and optimization;
• Extensive experience in engineering programming languages such as MATLAB, C++, FORTRAN;
• Extensive experience in multi-disciplinary engineering design work (loads, aerodynamics, structure, acoustics)
• Strong desire, ability, and adaptability to learn and to solve difficult technical challenges through innovation, dedication and cooperation with a global team;
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written reports;

Successful candidates are desired to possess the following:

• Working knowledge of high performance computing clusters / parallel computation;
• Experience working in a Linux environment;
• Experience with experimental testing either field and/or wind tunnel;
• Experience with high-level CAD, meshing and CFD packages;
• Experience in design for manufacturing and design of composites structures
• Experience in technical leadership/mentorship;
• Active patent history;
• Experience authoring scientific papers and technical reports;
