Job Specifications
Field Tester is a field service technician that is learning the trade of testing. It is a level below Field Test Technician and two levels below Field Test Expert. Field Tester must have some understanding of how a power or distribution transformer is manufactured and can perform the aspects of field assembly with minimal supervision. A Field Tester will have on the job training and classroom training when applicable. He/she is expected to perform all his/her duties to the required Safety, environmental and good work practice regulations set forth by the industry, federal and local rules and regulations. Field Tester reports to the Field Test Team Supervisor and may receive assignments from a Field Test Expert or Crew Leader (as directed by the Field Test Team Supervisor). He/she is expected to have continuous communication with his/her direct supervisor though out all assignments and when awaiting assignment (on non-paid time off (non-PTO) and/or stand-by time. The Field Tester is expected to work in unison with other members of the Crew when assigned with a crew.
The Field Tester is expected to constantly record notes for what is learned and put those to use. Be able to receive coaching on any non-conformities made during training process and take corrective action as directed or required.

Direct Roles and responsibilities:
• FT is responsible for a good EH&S culture to include but not limited to, properly complete reports for all near misses, safety violations, environmental incidents, tailboards and JSAs/pre-job safety briefs
• FT must be able to perform detailed & efficient documenting including NCR's, inspection, test and final reports as well as time and expenses
• FT must have the ability to perform at all levels of supervised production when required and or assigned to
• FT will perform all work assignments at the expected Quality Assurance(QA) levels
• FT will a display a constant effort of self-improvement in the understanding of the testing process which includes but is not limited to, proper test procedures, electrical theory, electrical clearances, NFPA70E and the use proper terminology of trade
• FT is responsible for assisting in the upkeep of test trucks and equipment which includes but is not limited to, preventative maintenance, monitoring and tracking calibrations of the test equipment
• FT must be able to assist in the performance of final testing including equipment setups and lead connections.
• FT must be able to operate man-lifts or similar equipment
• FT is responsible and expected to perform all duties as assigned by direct manager

Skills and Tools
• FT must have low to medium level field supervisory skills not only to supervise other less experienced crew members and subcontractors as assigned, but to provide a healthy and environmentally friendly work environment
• FT must be able to perform power and distribution transformer receipt inspections, including the completion of receipt inspection reports as per the standard and assigned processes set forth
• FT must be able to learn to interpret industry standards for basic and complex electrical and mechanical testing of power and distribution transformers and transformer accessories. As well as interpret the results as they pertain to ANSI, IEEE and other industry standards
• FT must be able to document test results utilizing standard MS Office, test equipment, standard test software and tools
• FT must be efficient in the use of MS Word, Excel and Windows based software as well as online tools as instructed
• FT must have strong commercial and industrial control wiring and troubleshooting skills
• FT must have good verbal and written communication skills, strong time management aptitude and strong analytical skills. He/she must well work well with teams and as an individual
• FT must be able to operate man lifts and forklifts in a construction environment
• FT must possess a minimum of 4+ years of combined field service technical assembly, maintenance, and repair of power and distribution transformers and transformer accessories in the electrical utility industry. Special skill sets in one or a combination of, Distribution, Power and Transmission substation equipment in the power ranges of Low Voltage (4160V - 13kV), Medium Voltage (13kV - 69kV), High Voltage (69kV - 800 kV) will be highly considered
Education licenses and certificates
• A Field Tester requires a High School (or equivalent (GED) Diploma
• Technical/Electrical vocational school, or technical/electro-mechanical training through a accredited schools training program, IBEW apprenticeship program, and or equivalent
• EH&S/OSHA training
• Training/education as a field engineer or technician
• On the job training, documented and logged as part of job training for, the installation, maintenance, service and repair of LV, MV and HV substation, power plant electrical equipment and specifically power and distribution transformers
