Position Overview
Siemens Charlotte Facility is seeking Mechanical Engineers interested in working in a factory environment to engineer and support the production of large-scale electric generators. Our local campus has approximately 1 million square feet of manufacturing space dedicated to the production of Generators, Steam Turbines, and Gas Turbines. The potential candidate must have a firm foundation in the practical application of engineering fundamentals and have the drive to pursue individual expertise and expand knowledge in the field of commercial electric power generation. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and thrives in a fast pace working environment where teamwork is essential to achieve success.

Specifically, the available position is for a generator engineer in the Customer Order Engineering department. The candidate may be called upon to support the execution of customer requirements for both New Apparatus and Service Orders.

The responsibilities associated with this position are as follows:
• Develop detailed design assessments and release engineering information to support the manufacture and service repair of generator rotor, stator, exciter, and collector products
• Create and upgrade design specifications and initiate revisions to existing product
• Support manufacturing with technical advice, troubleshooting, co-operative problem solving, disposition of product deviations, process review, and execution of design improvements
• Perform calculations, prepare computer programs, write material and process specifications, assist in conducting tests, and review drawings
• Provide technical support for negotiations of new and service orders, including travel to customer sites, suppliers, and other manufacturing sites in order to resolve technical issues.
• Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, and manufacturing personnel through clear verbal and written instructions, specifications and reports. Effective presentation skills are a must.

BS or higher degree in mechanical engineering is required with a strong background in mechanics of materials, failure mode analysis, machine design, and product development. Experience in the following areas is a plus:
• Dynamics analysis of stationary and/or rotating equipment
• Structural analysis of stationary components
• Prototype verification and testing
• Manufacturing techniques including machining, forging, fabrication and assembly of large scale components
• Large rotating apparatus, especially electric generators or electric motors
• Failure Analysis
• Finite Element Analysis
• Metals Joining
• Non-Destructive Examination
• Problem solving (e.g. Kepner-Trego and Fault Tree).
* Product Definition Creation and Maintenance.
* Working Knowledge of SAP.
