Job Description
Position Overview

eMeter is at the heart of the Smart Grid revolution sweeping the globe: every electric, gas, and water meter around the world is being replaced by a "Smart" meter that can measure precisely when and how much energy is consumed. We're one of two major product portfolios making up the Siemens Digital Grid Software unit, and are the leading provider of software that manages the enormous stream of data and events tracked by these smart meters. Our platform and growing number of apps enable utilities and their customers to lower costs, provide better service, and make smarter energy decisions. We offer technically challenging work, opportunity for growth, an open and collaborative culture, and the chance to make a difference.

As a Software Quality Engineer within the Siemens Digital Grid Software business unit, working on the eMeter product portfolio, you will take on complex test design, automation, and execution projects for eMeter's core Smart Meter Data Management platform and meter-to-cash applications. You will work closely with Development and other QE Engineers to test and deliver high quality enterprise software products, with an emphasis on automated testing. This includes: design, automate, and execute complex test cases; analyze and troubleshoot results; log defects, work with Development on troubleshooting and resolution, and verify fixes; design and execute regression test suites to ensure ongoing quality; and create related documentation, and test metrics.

More specifically, you will:
•Analyze new features to the product based on functional and design specifications, recommending appropriate test strategies
•Develop test plans, specifications and test cases and execute them, report issues that do not match with the expectation
•Develop test plans and specifications and implement/code test cases in JRuby, Java and Selenium
•Design and implement (code) complex tests
•Continually increase the coverage of functional test and automation suites
•Perform hands-on testing for complex features
•Provide recommendations for system and regression test plans
•Participate with the Quality Assurance team in defining and managing quality assurance processes and procedures
•Work very closely with Development to understand the product features and mentor other team members

To be a strong fit for the role of Software Quality Engineer, you will also need:
•A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
•Experience with server and UI testing
•3+ years of working experience as backend component quality assurance especially in an enterprise software offering environment
•Strong hands-on automation experience with Java, JRuby for backend component is a must.
•Fundamental understanding of multiple Operating Systems including AIX, and Linux
•Strong experience with Enterprise RDBMS ,preferably Oracle; SQL knowledge is a must.
•Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders
•Demonstrated motivational attributes including the desire and drive to take on challenging projects and responsibilities, a sense of urgency, and a deadline driven orientation
•Strong analytical, troubleshooting and organizational skills
•The ability to work in a fast-paced software development environment
Preferred, but not required:
• QA and Release management experience
• Experience testing energy or smart grid applications is a plus
