The industrial Safety and Facilities Engineer will be in charge of operational industrial safety & facilities and will work in close collaboration with the Prevention Advisor and the Facility and Building managers.
The Industrial Safety & Facilities Engineer will be a member of the EHS team and will report to the EHS manager in Nivelles.
For the Facilities related portion of this role the candidate will have a dotted line reporting relationship to the corporate Global Real Estate and Facilities function. His main purpose is to adhere to the standards and related BSC metrics set-up in the Global Operations Model and the harmonization to local requirements.
The industrial Safety & Facilities Engineer will:
  • elaborate, implement and maintain a safety management system compliant with Westinghouse global EHS requirements and the legal framework.
  • work in collaboration with the Prevention Advisor in order to ensure the compliance of Westinghouse's activities with Belgian safety regulations and the Westinghouse global EHS policies.
  • have the responsibility of defining and implementing safety measures, based on amongst others, the Prevention Advisor's advice and the Executive Management's decision, in close collaboration with the Building Managers and Operational units.
  • oversee and manage external Integrated Facility Management (IFM) Provider
  • oversee Physical site security Personnel, Equipment and budgets and (dotted line)report into the Corporate Global Security Function
  • oversee metrics (BSC) and  Financial performance as well as Planning Processes (Opex) of related assigned Facilities and Security Cost centres and Capex projects
  • own the CAPAL (Corrective Action) function for all task falling into the Real Estate and Facilities function
  • oversee occupancy and workplace planning processes participate to the deployment of and ensure the Safety Plan procedure is correctly implementedreport metrics and indicators to global EHS and local management.participate to EHS Inspections in order to ensure safe working conditions and safe working environment to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures.
  • determine requirements for PPE and ensure adherence to the prescriptions.
  • conduct and/or coordinate safety training to educate workers about safety policies, legal framework and practices.
  • participate to the investigation of safety-related events in order to minimize recurrence and the preparation of accident reports.
  • report to the local EHS Steering Committee and to Westinghouse Global EHS about our safety performance and our safety management system.
  • host, coordinate and participate to all safety-related audits.
  • perform visits at customers' site (mainly Belgium & France, other countries not being excluded) in order to assess the level of safety performance and propose appropriate corrective actions.
  • participate to risk assessment to identify and eliminate and/or mitigate safety risks
  • ensure adherence to global EHS procedure WS, including:
-Responsible for assembling a planning team for their area of responsibility which will provide input to the ISMP. The IS Representative is also responsible for preparing the plan on an annual basis, overseeing the implementation of the plan, monitoring the effectiveness of the plan and providing progress/evaluation reports to the appropriate level of management.
-Provide guidance, training, and coaching to Management in the deployment of IS concepts, principles and tools. 

Job Requirements

 The successful candidate for this position will possess the following:
  • Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Facilities Management or similar academic level.
  • Previous similar experience of minimum five years which has given the opportunity to develop a strong expertise in health and safety at work in Belgium.
  • Experience in overseeing and guide external (Facilities) service providers
  • The ideal candidate should have a Safety level 2 certification ( Conseiller en prevention) or should at least be committed to acquire it as soon as possible.
  • Any other certification (e.g. VCA, OHSAS 18001) or experience with certification scheme is an asset.
  • The candidate will be able to work independently, taking the appropriate initiatives and defining the right priorities in order to ensure the required level of safety at work, but will also be able to integrate in the EHS and operational teams, taking into account collateral activities.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to coach and encourage personnel in safe working habits.
  • French and Dutch (preferably both) with very good English (working language).
  • Feel at ease in an international and multicultural environment and have the flexibility to travel up to 20 %.
