Job Overview:

CB&I's Oil and Gas division currently has an opening for a Principal Mechanical Engineer - Insulation, Coating and Fireproofing for our Houston, TX location. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work independently and in a team setting within a dynamic work environment.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Perform as Principle Engineering Specialist with comprehensive Insulation, Coating/Painting and Fireproofing knowledge for proposal, Pre-FEED, FEED, detailed engineering activities and Construction in support of LNG, Ethylene, FCCU, Ammonia or any other projects.
  • Activities will involve one or more of the following:
    • Developing material and application specifications based on CB&I's CMS specifications or client's specification.
    • Design of thermal insulation system.
    • Heat loss calculation to assist other discipline.
    • Defining coating and lining systems for equipment, piping and structural steel.
    • Design of passive fire protection system.
  • Assist estimating group preparing cost estimate during FEED and proposal stage.
  • Preparing Equipment Insulation, Painting and Fireproofing List.
  • Perform review of vendor documents.
  • Prepare technical package for insulation subcontract, prepare technical bid evaluation and assist subcontract administrator in selecting qualified subcontractor.
  • Provide technical assistance to construction.
  • Assist with training other engineer by providing instruction and mentoring.
  • Is an expert and looked to for technical solutions. Maintains and promotes a focus on CB&I's end product whether engineering, fabrication or construction.
  • Perform detail engineering design activities in support of very large projects in EPC phase.
  • Ensures effective communications among other engineering disciplines.
  • Ensures effective management changes.
  • Adopt and leverage CB&I's Engineering Standards. Maintain or support any site-specific requirement or standards.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering required
  • Minimum 15 years detailed design experience with LNG and Ethylene projects.
  • 15+ years' experience Engineering Specialist with Proposals, Pre-FEED, FEED and EPC phase of the projects.
  • 10 years experience with special specifications incl. insulation, coatings and fireproofing.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 15+ years of EPC experience.
  • Professional Engineer Certificate of Registration
  • Experience as an Area, Team or Project Lead
  • Track record of successfully supporting the similar size organization and investment
  • Customer focused, dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Relates well to all levels and kinds of people; able to build appropriate rapport; listens well
  • Self-starter; results driven; anticipates/initiates and implements solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
