Job Overview:

CB&I is actively seeking a creative, highly talented, self-motivated, team-focused Environmental Scientist/Engineer with 5+ years of experience for immediate employment in the Irvine, California office. The Staff Environmental Engineer/Scientist will support our staff of experienced Project Managers, Engineers, Geologists and Scientists on environmental compliance and remediation type projects servicing a variety of clients, particularly those in the retail, telecommunications, and utility sectors. The successful candidate will work under the mentorship of experienced senior engineering and scientist staff and support a range of projects involving environmental compliance, remediation, engineering, permitting, and other disciplines.

The selected candidates should enjoy solving problems, working on multi-disciplinary projects, and being part of a motivated and highly skilled team. Position will be based in Irvine, CA office with some periodic travel required.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
  • Provide project support for environmental projects related to state, municipal, and commercial clients.
  • Prepare various technical deliverables including reports, letters, proposals, cost estimates, tables, and figures.
  • Provide support on air quality projects, compliance auditing, permitting, and regulatory analysis assignments.
  • Prepare, evaluate, and conduct peer reviews of permit applications and environmental documents.
  • Assist Program Managers with client management and the identification and development of new projects.
  • Assist Project Managers to plan, staff, schedule, budget, and ensure quality of work products, ensure staff safety, and coordinate with subcontractors and internal support staff on miscellaneous projects.
  • Manage small projects, tasks, and project teams with a focus on client management, staff, project schedule, and project budget.
  • Perform facility site inspections and multi-media compliance audits.
  • Conduct Phase I/ Phase II Site Assessments, conduct sampling, and supervise UST removals.
  • Prepare various types of regulatory reports including HMBPs, SPCC, Air Quality Permit Applications, Phase I/II Site Assessments, etc.
  • Work independently with general guidance except for complex and unusual situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and assignments at any given time without losing focus of quality.
  • Interact with clients, understand their needs, and converse with regulators on their behalf.
Basic Qualifications:
  • B.S. in engineering or environmental science-related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience. Master's degree is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of RCRA, CWA, CAA and other environmental statutes.
  • Experience supporting private and commercial clients (industrial, waste management, real estate developers, retail, telecommunications).
  • Hands-on field experience including: compliance auditing, environmental investigation.
  • OSHA 40-Hour Hazwoper training with annual refreshers are required.
  • Air quality compliance experience.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently, including periodic travel.
  • Experience in air quality compliance and permitting, including working with California air management/pollution control districts.
  • Experience working with local, county, state and federal regulatory agencies on complex issues
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience in the preparation and evaluation of permit applications and other environmental documents in California.
  • Enthusiasm, resourcefulness, and a positive attitude highly desirable.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree desired
  • Collective experience in hazardous waste management, storage tanks, and environmental compliance auditing, desired
  • Experience working with the telecommunications, utility, or oil and gas sectors, desired
  • Experience in performing air emissions calculations
  • Familiarity with air permitting applicability and preparation of applications
  • Initial project management training or experience is preferred.
