Job Overview:

An experienced engineer to provide expert technical and operational consultation in the assessment of conventional and renewable power generation projects for equity investors, lenders, private and investor owned energy companies, municipalities and government agencies. Capable to support technical due diligence and feasibility studies of power projects. Work will also include proposal preparation.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Should have a working knowledge of coal, combustion turbines and/or renewable energy technologies.
  • Will lead technical due diligence activities on power generation projects including review of project design, execution plans, performance, and contracts.
  • Will lead a site assessment team as part of the due diligence activities and should be comfortable with interviewing plant staff.
  • Will be required to forecast the necessary capital expenditure budget to ensure reliable operation of the power generation projects.
  • Will lead a team in performing reviews of the technical and/or commercial parameters and business drivers for major domestic and international capital projects.
  • Analyze project technical, commercial and business information, develop conclusions and participate in reviews and site inspections.
  • Prepare clear and concise written reports on assignments develop conclusions and present results to clients.
  • Work on assignments with tight deadlines and coordinate activities with other team members.
  • Perform design calculations (as checks) and review proposed process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment specifications.
  • Take direction and achieve objectives without extensive oversight.
  • Pursue business development activities in areas such as project technical due diligence, project development support services, and owner's engineering support services. Will be required to support marketing and proposal development efforts.
  • Additional business areas may be identified based on the candidate's work history, strengths, and interests.
  • Job-related travel (business trips usually requiring less than two-weeks) including domestic and international travel to project locations is an important part of the work. Travel may average 10 to 35 percent.
Basic Qualifications:

  • A degree-educated Engineer; MBA is beneficial but not required.
  • Ten to twenty years relevant professional experience in the Power sector.
  • Strong knowledge of power generation technology, equipment design and operation (multiple technologies). Project development experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Prior experience with an owner or major engineering company in the power industry.
  • Prior experience of working for a consultancy is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal skills is critical.
  • Ability to travel internationally and in the US.
  • Proficient in basic computer programs (Word, Excel).
  • General knowledge of power systems design and sound engineering judgment.
  • Responsible for the supervision of feasibility studies and projects.
  • Minimum supervision required.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team to execute assignments.
  • Willing to handle multiple projects and work to demanding client schedules.
  • Able to communicate project issues to management, to coordinate activities with other team members, and to relay the results of the due diligence to the client or the client's advisors.
  • Able to identify project and client opportunities and initiate business development outreach.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is a pre-requisite.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is desirable but not required.
