We are looking for a Controls Manager (m/f), Job Reference #2710631.

Essential Responsibilities

This senior level engineering leadership position will be the manager of the engine controls team, leading projects and activities required to drive new product introductions. In this position the person utilizes their controls knowledge and problem solving skills to create new product concepts and resolve technical issues with current products. This position reports to the Global Leader for Controls for Distributed Power and requires superb teamwork and collaboration with other managers and technical leaders across the organization and in multiple locations.

  • Lead and manage the Jenbach and Munich based engine controls engineers on complex control system development activities for new product introduction (NPI), new technology introduction (NTI), product cost-out and alternate source initiatives, and current product improvements
  • Lead extensive engineering initiatives and oversee progress on a significant project portfolio while managing priorities and staffing to complete key milestones
  • Lead long-term planning of controls solutions while working with other key internal and external stakeholders
  • Translate the various engine program CTQ (Critical to Quality) requirements to engine control systems, sub-systems and components for industrial engines that meet the needs and desires of our customers
  • Lead reviews of work products and participate in project technical reviews of a complex nature with other engineering departments and functions, including manufacturing, purchasing and product line management
  • Further develop the core capabilities of the engine controls engineering team by developing training and career plans for members of the team, identifying and filling gaps in expertise and talent, and define the application of higher engineering standards and DFSS processes
  • Drive for simplification and continuous improvement of processes

    Qualifications/Requirements


    • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant Engineering discipline
    • Significant leadership experience in reciprocating engine engineering, including engine control systems design and development
    • Working knowledge of relevant sensors, actuators and engine electrical hardware


    According to Austrian law job postings need to include the minimum salary for a position. For this position the minimum salary based on the collective agreement is EURO 3.399,99 gross monthly. Please note that this is the very minimum salary and will most likely be higher. The effective salary is based on the candidate's Qualification and Experience and will be negotiated accordingly.



    Desired Characteristics


    • Master of Science in Mechanical/Electrical/Controls Engineering or higher
    • Experience in engine control systems on reciprocating engines including use of best practices in model-based control and the V-model development process to successfully release optimized solutions for our customers
    • Proficiency in simulation and modeling of mechanical and electrical systems and mentoring other engineering personnel on these methods
    • Working knowledge of control calibration process, control interface requirements, and safety related software
    • Proven experience in a management role, including outstanding leadership and decision-making skills regarding complex technical topics
    • Organizational and management skills, including demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and supervise engineers in a global matrix organization to deliver successful solutions on time and within budget
    • Knowledge of relevant manufacturing, assembly, and quality processes
    • Problem solving and continuous improvement experience including Six Sigma and DMAIC principles
    • Communication & interpersonal skills required to lead effectively across global engineering and inter-department teams
