The PGS Electrical Excitation Lead Services Training Instructor will be responsible for the delivery of training curriculum for Electrical Excitation courses, which will serve PGS Field Engineering (FE) and Customer clientele. The PGS Product Training Delivery Team is chartered with delivery of state-of-the-art employee technical training courses providing safe, high quality, capable field service representatives for the PGS business to apply across the energy cycle.

Essential Responsibilities

As the PGS Electrical Excitation Lead Services Training Instructor, you will:
  • Be responsible for conducting GE Power Generation Services Electrical Excitation operation / maintenance training for both internal and external customers
  • Work closely with direct management, key Electrical Excitation Product Line Leadership and Field Service Regions to deliver current, cutting edge technology training to meet business fulfillment needs
  • Manage, troubleshoot, repair and maintain lab equipment and software for PGS Electrical Excitation Training Equipment Located at the Houston Learning Center
  • Develop and deliver course modules as well as supervise other Electrical Excitation program instructors to meet the overall Electrical Excitation training mission - to train GE Electrical Excitation specialists
  • Develop and build lab stations to support courses
  • Provide student performance evaluation appraisals
  • Identify and procure new equipment for use in technical training (appropriation requests)
  • Conduct training review board meetings with business teams on a regular rhythm
  • Lead the development and improvements of training programs as required based on NPS, student and business feedback
  • Provide program leadership through active contacts with operations, engineering and service shops to stay current on technical, procedural and business changes
  • Ensure training materials are formatted to a consistent design and quality and are regularly updated and revised
  • Create an innovative learning environment that will address rapidly changing competencies due to business growth
  • Ensure that all labs, activities, and classes are conducted with a 100% commitment to safety by implementing, documenting, and following strict safety procedures


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences (OR High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 8 years of professional work experience in Electrical Excitation power generation, installation and maintenance)
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands on field experience with Electrical Excitation equipment installation, startup and maintenance
  • Ability and willingness to travel 25% of the time, as required

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening. Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.

  • Desire to instruct
  • Technically savvy, with in-depth GE Electrical Excitation product knowledge (EX2000, EX2100, EX2100e) (GE Employees ONLY)
  • Ability to learn and apply new technology, specifically EX2100e or other advanced GE Electrical Excitation products
  • Field experience with Electrical Excitation equipment design and / or installation, startup, retrofit, troubleshooting and maintenance General Electric Field Engineering Program (FEP) graduate (GE Employees ONLY)
  • Experience in development and implementation of learning programs, including needs assessment, instructional design, content development and program reviews
  • Generator Specialist Knowledge; 2nd Person Qualified, Generator Specialist Qualified
  • Technical Training experience (customer or internal)
  • Recent installation experience, Green Belt certified or equivalent quality certification
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (oral and written)
  • Flexible, willing to learn and teach new technologies
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proficient with current e-business tools and current coreload software
  • Experience in developing and managing training
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Ability and desire to actively collaborate within a team
  • Independent self-starter with excellent follow through skills
  • Strong ability to clearly convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel
  • Dedication and drive to meet the highest standards
  • Ability to implement adult learning theory in an enthusiastic, clear, and effective manner
  • Strong computer skills with Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Fluency in English
