The Lead PostgreSQL DBA & Data Modeler will serve as a technical expert responsible for leading and executing multiple, simultaneous programs, initiatives and assignments with broad scope and high impact to the HQ Data Management Team. The Power & Water Data Services team is looking for an individual to lead PostgreSQL DBA and Data Modeling activities across P&W.

Essential Responsibilities

The Lead PostgreSQL DBA & Data Modeler will take the lead on initiatives like setting up PostgreSQL instances, schemas, backups, HA and/or replication, and assisting with migration and upgrade activities. The candidate will be responsible for major and complex assignments in order to implement long-term business improvements. This is a highly technical role for a senior DBA with excellent leadership & communication skills, broad architectural understanding, and strategic thinking.
In addition you will:

  • Provide technology leadership for the Database Build and Operations process for the HQ Data Management Team
  • Provide leadership in architecting data models, normalizing data structures, creating ERDs and data schema diagrams
  • Proficiency in data modeling tools such as ER-Win, Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler etc.
  • Serve as the project lead for the Offshore team assigning new activities and tasks associated with PostgreSQL database projects for HQ Data Management
  • Design, build and administer both development and production PostgreSQL application databases on clustered and non-clustered systems on premise and cloud infrastructure
  • Architect and build HA solutions for PostgreSQL
  • Manages daily Build activities, issue resolution and communication across project execution teams in order to deliver projects on-time, on-budget, as-requested by the Power Technology customer to ensure all the assigned build tickets are delivered within SLA and all related build activities such as CI configuration, Backup Configuration, Security Configurations are setup correctly
  • Require solid onshore / offshore vendor resource management ability, which will be realized by exhibiting strong communication skills. These same skills will provide the ability to team with and influence project leaders and stakeholders within IT and Business teams
  • Will follow PostgreSQL best practice recommendations
  • Experience with automation / scripting
  • Be able to work with sys admin team to ensure new servers are built to pre-requisites defined by PostgreSQL documentation
  • Develop clear SOP for all instance, schema and other build activates
  • Designs, tests and installs new database technologies for use with business applications
  • Work on new PostgreSQL technologies POC as per team leader's direction
  • Assist and mentor new team members and also assist operations team with major issues
  • Participate in DBA on call rotation
  • Ensures appropriate linkages with applications to other data processing systems
  • Oracle, GreenPlum SQL Server and Big Data DBA experience is desirable


  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering or 2 year Associate's Degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience in the application of Information Technologies to Business Solutions
  • Minimum of 5 additional years of experience with Oracle as a professional DBA in a large business environment

  • Provides leadership to identify practical solutions to improve performance and availability for support applications and infrastructure
  • Proven analytical and problem resolution skills

  • Proactive responsible individual, able to set own action plans
  • Ability to influence and build consensus with other IT teams and leadership
  • Strong knowledge of ITIL Processes, experience with Service Now preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
