The Instrument Technician Lead will work in the engineering lab with direction from lab management and engineers to configure and program test cell automation systems. This will include integrating all forms of data and information collection into one retrievable data package available for post processing by the product development community. You will work with the GE reciprocating engine test community to develop a global test automation and data information system process.

Essential Responsibilities

In this role, the Instrument Technician will be responsible for developing new test methods and the design / specification for new equipment and data measurement systems.

In addition, you will:
  • Integrate with test equipment and control systems in lab environment to provide a complete data package
  • Design and program test automation routines, data collection and measurement equipment to deliver customer information
  • Set up, calibrate and repair instrumentation including automated test devices and related systems
  • Design, set up and run component and bench type tests
  • Operate and instruct the use of data acquisition, emission and other testing instrumentation
  • Identify, recommend and evaluate the purchase of new equipment, measurement systems and instrumentation
  • Perform frequent hand operations like soldering, crimping wires to connectors and wiring tasks 
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area


  • Associate's Degree in electromechanical, electrical/electronic or computer science
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a lab instrumentation and data measurement collection environment integrating equipment and systems
  • Ability and willingness to lift a maximum of 40 lbs, as required

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

  • Minimum of 3 years experience programming in , C#, C++ or similar
  • Experience installing engine test cell data acquisition systems with instrumentation
  • Working knowledge of programming PLC systems used in facility and building equipment control and monitoring
  • Basic working knowledge of computer networking
  • Working knowledge of engines in a testing environment
  • Experience with AVL PUMA Data Acquisition and control system and Santorin Data Management Database
  • Diagnose and repair complex engine instrumentation and test facility equipment
  • Advanced mechanical and instrumentation aptitude with troubleshooting skills related to development testing internal combustion engines
  • Effective verbal, writing and listening skills
  • Self-starter, quick learner, aggressive, reliable and punctual
  • Flexible in work assignments requiring minimal supervision
