The Nuclear Test Reactor Manager for the Nuclear Test Reactor (NTR) at Vallecitos Nuclear Center (VNC) will be responsible for the overall safe operation and supervision of the daily operations of the reactor facility. This will include overall responsibility for the preventive and corrective maintenance of the facility.

Essential Responsibilities

You will also be responsible production which will include the overall management of the value creation processes of the NTR. As the manager, you will be responsible for the management of the direct reports assigned to the NTR team. You will also be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the shift, the management of project costs and time constraints, the management of personnel scheduling and performance and direct interface with customers and regulatory agencies.

As the Nuclear Test Reactor Manager, you will:
  • Serve as subject matter expert for the reactor operations and compliance processes at NTR. This will include qualifications to Senior Reactor Operator
  • Implement regulatory and corporate EHS policies
  • Manage the business operations as directed by the program leaders in areas of sales, customer development and operations performance
  • Become the primary interface with the NTR NRay customers as a provider of an essential service
  • Ensure the NTR quality programs meet customer requirements and are properly implemented
  • Be responsible for facilitating personnel training development and execution, as well as implementation of robust observation program
  • Work with process owners to identify, prioritize and drive process improvement opportunities that contribute to regulatory compliance, product quality, and reduced product cost
  • Participate in the production work as needed to fill in including the project management and planning This will require qualifications in the Neutron Radiography Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) discipline


  • Bachelor's Degree ( OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 6 years of nuclear experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years of nuclear experience
  • As required by DoD and NRC must be a US citizen or permanent resident and a minimum age of 18 years of age
  • Ability and willingness to meet the minimum Nuclear Regulatory Commission's issued license conditions for an instant Senior Reactor Operator by evidence of 3 years nuclear operations experience in test reactors and/or commercial power or naval propulsion reactors or two years of University level education in the nuclear field and one year of operations experience
  • Ability and willingness to meet the medical requirements for Reactor Operator qualifications as found in ANSI / ANS-15.4-1988
  • Ability and willingness to meet vision requirements for NDT Neutron Radiography
  • Ability and willingness to pass the VNC radiation protection training and certification and possess a willingness to work in an occupational radiation environment
  • Ability and willingness to qualify as a BATF Responsible Person for explosives and possess a willingness to handle products containing explosives materials

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

  • Current SRO license at a Test Reactor Facility
  • Current Non-destructive Testing Certification (NDT)
  • Experience with implementation of a Quality Assurance program
  • Experience in manufacturing or nuclear procedure and training development
  • Project management/planning experience (planning, scheduling, and cost management)
  • Comprehensive understanding of basic mechanical, electrical and electronic systems
  • Extensive experience working in a team environment
  • Extensive experience with customer interface
  • Experience with government regulatory compliance
  • Experience with DOT Hazmat shipping
  • Strong computer and database skills, including Microsoft Suite
