The SQL Server DBA will serve as technical expert responsible for the design / implementation of database technology and set / administer standards for overall organization's relational database structure / architecture for our SQL Server database environment.

Essential Responsibilities

The Power Data Management team is looking for an individual to lead strategic operations and build implementations across Power for SQL Server database technologies. This is a highly technical role for a senior DBA with excellent leadership & communication skills, broad architectural understanding, and strategic thinking. you will research database technology, determine requirements, propose
changes, develop automated routines and develop migration / implementation plans. The SQL
Server DBA serves as key producer of SQL Server database deliverables for assigned projects
and areas.
In addition you will:

  • Set and administer standards for overall organization's SQL Server relational database structure / architecture
  • Provide database architecture and technical project leadership for new projects
  • Maintain, tune, monitor and administer both development and production SQL Server application databases and application-tier technology components
  • Designs, tests and installs database management systems for use with business applications
  • Ensures appropriate linkages with applications to other data processing systems
  • Monitor, resolve and implement incidents, service requests, changes and problem tickets requested by the applications teams providing hands on DBA support
  • Ensure that proper root cause analysis is completed on all Database Problem tickets and that solutions are implemented across the enterprise of servers.
  • Constructs database specifications, provides fault isolation and resolution, tunes database applications for optimum performance, and implements disaster recovery and contingency plans as required by the business
  • Responsible for the control, integrity, and accessibility of the database file structure of one or more databases with multiple concurrent users
  • Research database technologies, determine business requirements, propose changes, and develop migration and implementation plans, may execute projects based on these activities
  • Ensure plans for database technologies integrate effectively with other aspects of the technical infrastructure


  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering or a 2 year degree with a minimum of 4 years of experience in the application of information technologies to business solutions
  • Minimum of 5 additional years of experience with SQL Server as a professional DBA in a large business environment

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Desired Characteristics

  • Possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
  • Self-directed
  • Ability to work in a virtual team without day to day managerial oversight
  • Administrative experience with one or more other database technologies including Oracle, PostgreSQL
  • Solaris or Linux experience with basic system administration skills.
  • AWS / RDS experience supporting databases in the cloud
  • Knowledge & understanding of multi-tier system architectures
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with complex Database environments including hardware and supporting infrastructures
  • Systems Administration background in Solaris, Linux, and/or Windows
  • Experience with High Availability Database solutions
  • Experience with other SQL Server components - SSAS, SSRS, SSIS and key features of SQL Server, including replication and Always On
  • Experience with virtualization technologies
  • Experience with database automation leveraging Ruby, Python, Chef or other programming tools
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting specific to database administration and automation
  • Project Management experience & proven track record
  • Provide consulting support to Database application teams, Solutions Architect in complex systems design
  • Understanding of open source business models & applications
  • Provides leadership to identify practical solutions to improve performance and availability for support applications and infrastructure
  • Quality and cost driven
  • Proactive responsible individual, able to set own action plans
  • Ability to influence and build consensus with other IT teams and leadership
  • Strong knowledge of ITIL Processes, experience with Service Now preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
