As a key member of the O&M team, you will provide EHS support and guidance on all EHS matters, providing in-depth knowledge of existing and proposed national and local regulations ensuring compliance with all EU, UK, GE and owner EHS requirements.The EHS Leader is responsible for their own Health and Safety, and that of any staff/contractors working under their direction in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provision of assistance and support to O&M Team in the fields of environmental, health and safety (EHS) issues
• Assisting the facility management team in the formulation, review, publication and development of EHS policy and of specific departmental EHS procedures
• Assisting in the production of operating plans which specify how agreed EHS objectives are to be achieved
• Assist the management team with review and audit of the overall performance of the Environmental Health and Safety Management System utilizing both GE on line and site specific systems
• Based on risk assessment and safety performance, deciding and communicating the health and safety priorities necessary to achieve agreed EHS objectives
• Acting as the Environmental Management Representative and performing the duties of the role as further defined in site quality procedures and supporting he owner with all relevant environmental submissions in accordance with local legislation and requirement ensuring compliance with all IPPC and applicable legislative EHS requirements
• Reporting to the facility management team any excursions from prescribed operating environmental limits
• Active involvement in the effective implementation and running of all EHS programs including leading monthly EHS meetings for all site staff/owner's representatives. Co-ordinate and actively support the sites Safety Health Environmental Quality Teams (SHEQ) by leading audits and leading meetings with quality champion
• Provide a link between the detailed technical requirements of current legislation, business standards and codes of practice as well as the business requirements and operational activities
• Ensure risk management is carried out through effective risk assessment, risk control identification and implementation of control systems. Providing expert input to risk assessments and method statements
• Management of risk reduction programs and O&M/Owners Safety Improvement initiatives
• Review and report on accident performance and trends within the business, whilst providing pro-active approaches, measures and methods to support the identification, setting and achievement of improvement targets
• Assist in development of a network within all Sites and Regions to ensure the effective communication of health and safety matters to all staff to promote a positive health and safety culture
• Communicate with the Owners Representative on all aspects of Environment, Health and Safety
• Day to day auditing of all environmental parameters to ensure operation within prescribed consent levels
• Manage, monitor and audit all waste streams from the site and act as the authorizing agent for waste control
• Provide on-going training and advice to all facility staff on environmental, health and safety


• Solid EHS experience in industry or manufacturing environment

Desired Characteristics

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college or equivalent knowledge and experience (or a high school diploma/GED with proven years of experience with EHS systems
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside GE (regulatory agencies)
• Established program management ability
