Execute engineering design and simulation work on wind turbine gearbox and drivetrain components. In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals. The design responsibility reaches from the conceptual design stage through prototyping to the serial implementation and support of the installed fleet.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Design mechanical and structural components within the gearbox and drivetrain for large wind turbines
  • Design isolation elements within the drivetrain for large wind turbines
  • Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing on the production
  • Create and revise of drawing/specifications/design practices for mechanical and structural components of gearboxes. Apply GE design processes and Six Sigma methodology
  • Optimization and improvement of existing components, including load evaluation for upgrade application
  • Work with certification and testing institutes, support customer and due diligence activities
  • Work cross-functionally with quality teams, manufacturing engineers, sourcing, planning, field support and others to improve first time yield
  • Investigate causes for component interferences, functional failures, gearbox excessive vibration
  • Responsible for design, development and testing to prove out component functional, reliability and acoustic


    • B.A./M.A. in Mechanical, Structural or Material Engineering, or equivalent
    • Basic knowledge of structural analysis and finite element analysis (tools (e.g. ANSYS, ...)
    • Basic knowledge in Material Engineering, also none metallic background, rubber components (isolation elements)
    • Experience in dynamical, vibration and/or vibro-acoustic simulation and testing
    • Basic knowledge in design and simulation tools like 3D UG, Matlab, etc.
    • Familiar with related international codes and standards
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
    • Technical drawing and design interpretation background
    • Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries
    • Fluent English and German written and spoken

      Desired Characteristics

      • Master Degree in Mechanical, Structural or Material Engineering
      • Basic knowledge of wind turbine design, components, assembly and manufacture
      • GE Business tools and practices expertise
      • Proven ability to work under pressure and challenging conditions. Strong desire and ability to drive improvement and change
      • Willingness to travel
      • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification (GE Employees only)
