The NERC Support Specialist (NSS) will be responsible for the processes that are used to secure and operate our renewables assets (wind turbines, solar arrays, battery storage devices) at hundreds of power generation sites across North & South America.

Essential Responsibilities

We are looking for people to join us in our mission to maximize customer value by proactively detecting, evaluating and resolving internal as well as site level NERC non conformances with the highest level of safety, quality, and expertise. The NSS will be a operations and technical role with the mission of engaging with the broad community of technicians, support specialists and engineers while driving excitement and a shared priority to ensure the reliable operation of our customer's wind turbinesl. This role will be a great opportunity to help improve customer's perception of GE's Remote Surveillance and Asset Management Service offerings and to help us expand our market share in this arena.

The NSS will be able to talk about NERC & CIP intelligently and enthusiastically to Engineers, Technicians, and Technician managers. Passion, curiosity, technical depth, exceptional attention to detail and technical skills are required. This will be a fast paced operational role participating on a team driving the roll-out of processes as well as the hands on execution of the ongoing tasks associated with monitoring and remediation of non conformances.

As the NERC Support Specialist, you will:

• Assist in performing real-time audit and remediation tasks associated with maintaining a fully NERC & CIP compliant operation for 7,000 wind turbine assets in North and South America
• Disposition the nonconformances at the first level troubleshooting procedures, help return reporting & monitoring systems to service, and answer questions regarding the interpretation of the implemented processes
• Assist in performing site and internal systems level audits based on the prescribed checklist
• Log all nonconformances found, and remediate or escalate to ensure proper disposition
• Help maintain site and internal process scorecards to drive continuously improved fleet adoption
• Drive on-time delivery of all NERC & CIP operational work tasks and reporting requirements
• Seek out and adhere to all training requirements to ensure up to date subject matter expertise
• Support GE Field Service Directors, Customer Relationship Managers, and Reliability Engineers with reporting requirements as needed
• Support process and application scalability to support our growing fleet
• Adapt to new operational processes and ensure that you execute them in targeted time-frames
• Help build, document, deploy, and support automation solutions to support scale of the team in terms of expectations on numbers of turbines supported and type of work expected
• Actively feed lessons learned back into procedures and quality checks to drive world class operational excellence
• Help identify systematic technical issues in transaction system to drive platform level solutions
• Provide input to develop training material relative to the team that can be used by both internal and external customers
• Provide feedback and suggestions to the development of new software products & related to improving and offering new Operations services


• Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) from an accredited college or university (OR an Associate's Degree with a minimum of 2 years of technical experience OR a High School Degree / GED with a minimum of 4 years of technical experience)

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.
• Ability and willingness to travel as needed; typically between Salzbergen; Schenectady, NY; Greenville, SC and Salem, VA

Desired Characteristics

• Electrical or Mechanical training course certification or on the job experience or comparable military experience
• Ability to read, understand, and interpret operational and technical processes
• Training or experience in the adoption or execution of the ongoing operational rigor associated with NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corp) & CIP compliant processes and operations
• MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook experience
• Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in written form
• Ability to interface effectively with diverse teams of personnel
• Training or experience with the maintenance or operations of power generation equipment or transmission and distribution infrastructure
• Certified technician or specialist in dealing with wind turbines
• Previous experience with wind turbine software and firmware packages including: WindSCADA, VisuPro, ControlST (ToolboxST, WorkstationST), Bachmann PLC software and tools, Mark VIecontrol systems
• Distinctive ability to execute technical processes
• Strong customer service focus and desire for continual improvement

• Experience to working with multicultural teams

• Strong communication and leadership skills with ability to clearly communicate issues and resolution to both a technical and non-technical audience
• Knowledge and/or experience with the configuration and system's tasks associated with the Microsoft Operating System Servers
• Knowledge of Microsoft SQL and VBA in order to assist in development of in house automation tools
• Knowledge of general network communications / IT systems (LAN's, WAN's, etc) and troubleshooting tools
