This is a unique role that broadens the current I&C Engineering department's expertise into the Electrical Engineering discipline. As a knowledgeable Electrical Engineer at GEH-C Nuclear Energy, you will work on technically challenging projects as a member of the I&C Engineering team. You will be responsible for the estimating, planning, and design of electrical/control systems and equipment in CANDU reactors.

Essential Responsibilities

Required skills:
• Substation design & layout, single line diagrams, equipment specifications, BOM and power studies; load flow, short circuit study, coordination study, arc flash and mitigation study, AC three-line diagram, DC Schematics, wiring diagrams and cable Lists
• MCC design, upgrades, evaluations and maintenance
• Short Circuit study, create system model under short circuit fault conditions and provide information required for completion of the equipment duty evaluation
• Evaluation of protection system and control relays for transformers, motors, generators, bus bars, feeders.
• Auxiliary AC and DC system equipment sizing calculations
• Lighting and cable tray design and drawings for the substation projects
• Conducting feasibility, design and performance research of electrical generation and distribution networks
• Knowledge of CANDU electrical systems considered an asset (Classes of power, distribution system)
In addition to being an Electrical Engineer, these skills would also be preferred as an I&C Engineer:

• Design, develop or test hardware solutions in one or more of the following areas:
o Control systems for automated, on-power fuelling and defueling of CANDU reactors.
o Control systems for reactor inspection, maintenance and refurbishment tooling and tool delivery systems.
o Custom hardware solutions for obsolete or legacy components
o Simulation and emulation systems.
• Generate design and QA documentation as required by applicable codes and standards.
• Work closely with other engineering disciplines on continually and rapidly evolving designs.
• Support testing, installation, commissioning and execution both locally and at the customer's site.

• Design, implement, install and commission new and modified electrical & control systems in CANDU plants
• Provide guidance and expertise to team as needed
• Experience with various I&C components, relay logic, AC/DC drives, VFD, and PLC/HMI
• Assess present status of equipment and create technical documentation to support the electrical system installation and commissioning.
• Must be able to work on their own initiative and within a team environment
• Provide technical input for project proposals and estimates.
• Review customer technical requirements & develop system-level and detailed project requirements.
• Develop concept designs including descriptions and architectures suitable for inclusion at the proposal stage, as required.
• Review and confirm quality requirements (levels, standards, categorization, and internal process standards).
• Produce project design deliverables, working with other engineering disciplines, as required.
• Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with the agreed quality process and within budget for each project.
• Perform required functions to support the project design effort through the fabrication, assembly, and test phases of a project.
• Provide technical contributions to project documentation.
• Participate in design reviews and project audits
• Ability to present findings to the team and provide recommendations
• Provide on-site support for project commissioning, troubleshooting, or other technical functions related to equipment maintenance
• Proficient in the use of MS Office products such as Excel/Access/PowerPoint
• There is also opportunity to work on site assignment at one of the nuclear power plants in Ontario.


• Minimum 5 years' experience of working in Electrical Engineering
• 4-year electrical engineering degree or equivalent.
• Must be familiar with the electrical safety regulation (CSA/ESA).
• Experience with creation/maintenance of technical documentation.
• Licensed Ontario professional engineer (P. Eng).
• Successful candidates will be required to be Security Cleared
• Good English communication skills - written and oral.

Desired Characteristics

• Design/test/QA experience with industrial control systems
• Experience with CANDU technology
• Familiarity with nuclear safety systems and their design, particularly containment or cooling systems for nuclear fuel.
• Strong knowledge of Nuclear safety and regulatory procedures.
• Engineering Change Control (ECC) experience.
• Experience in Project Management methodology and project execution
