The High Voltage (HV) Field Manager is responsible for all aspects of safely leading a team of HV Field Engineers and Technicians in the performance of planned maintenance outages and in correcting unplanned outages in renewable energy project substations. In this position, you will bring extensive knowledge and experience testing substation components, systems, and expertise in troubleshooting and return to service evolutions.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and / or instruct HV and electrical safety training programs as required in order to impart and perpetuate field engineering and electrical safety HV operations
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable contractual obligations and ensure services provided satisfy contractual requirements with respect to scope, frequency, and reporting requirements. Generate schedules for required periodic maintenance checks and tests, and coordinate schedules to maximize utilization of assigned resources while minimizing downtime impact to our customers
  • Perform administrative functions, such as writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, preparing job status reports, developing customer facing reports, and maintain these records on file as a reference for future outages
  • Maintain knowledge of the various reporting systems to the extent required for timely and accurate input of necessary field information, and manage field team's labor debrief, payroll time, and T&L expenses on a regular, timely and thorough basis
  • Provide leadership and technical direction to skilled labor performing work on customer sites
  • Maintain strong safety mindset to assure the executed work reflects the technical requirements within GE safety standards. Drive EHS culture and ensure compliance. Conduct periodic audits of team LOTO programs and PPE.
  • Coordinate with customer and internal control centers, and work with SCADA support teams as needed to maintain the integrity of the wind farm power collection systems as a whole
  • Assist in creating control center monitoring protocol and operating procedures for substation monitoring
  • Respond to requests for emergency repairs and provide outage response in accordance with contractual requirements
  • Develop and further expand technical knowledge and expertise of currently recognized industry standards for HV system maintenance.
  • Provide technical insight and expertise regarding electrical power systems
  • Be proficient in the use of tools and test equipment required for routine maintenance and testing of substation components, including transformer turns ratio testers, DLRO, hi-pot testers, breaker testing equipment, and relay test instruments. Ensure safe use of additional equipment such as man lifts, bucket trucks, fork lifts, and aerial platforms
  • Train team and on-site personnel in IR scanning techniques, transformer oil sample collection, substation battery testing and maintenance, and other HV eBOP activities.
  • Review arc flash hazard studies, read one line diagrams, schematics, civil drawings, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and other technical documents to develop switching orders for HV operations in the substation and collection system


  • Bachelor's Degree in a Technical Electrical / Electronic discipline from an accredited college or university (OR an Associate's Degree in a Technical Electrical / Electronic discipline with a minimum of 8 years of experience in substations including a minimum of 8 years of experience substation and relay testing OR a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 10 years of experience in substations including a minimum of 10 years of experience in substation and relay testing)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with HV test equipment

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Licenses and Certifications: NETA OR NICET; SEL training
  • Knowledge of NERC / CIP / WECC / ISO / ERCOT / OSHA
  • Knowledge of WFMS / WindControl / WindScada
  • Communication and problem solving skills
  • Six Sigma (GE employees only)
  • Familiarity with GE Energy Wind operating functions • Self-motivated and self-starter • Ability to motivate support groups and convey urgency in customer needs and concerns.
