IP Engineer – Wind Electrical Systems (f/m)

  • Monitoring of patent application publications of competitors and vendors with main focus on Wind Turbine technology, especially on Electrical Systems, Power Conversion, and Grid Connection. Classification of such and communication of relevant publications to Engineering teams
  • Use patent search tools and databases, like Thomson Innovation, US PTO PAIR, Epacenet, etc.
  • Ensure published patent literature listings are categorized into easy to search / use technical subject matters for expedient Engineering use
  • Recognize, prioritize and support potential competitor infringements of GE patents
  • Communicate with technical team to understand product and process development to allow early identification of potential IP concerns.
  • Searching for published prior art regarding special topics of patent literature in order to prepare oppositions- Work in close cooperation with technical experts and IP counsel in preparation for opposition filings and proceedings
  • Training of employees on industrial protective rights (esp. patents)
  • Support inventors on creation of Invention Disclosure Letters and further patent process
  • Stimulate high value IDL submission rate to exceed Business expectations or address shortfalls in expectations
  • Hosting Patent Evaluation Board meetings to assess new disclosed inventions and providing filing recommendation
  • Planning and execution of IP landscapings enabling competitor IP awareness in technical teams and white space identification with potential for own IP generation
  • Development and maintenance of strategic patent portfolio
  • Ownership on inventor remuneration topics, including calculation of remuneration amount according to established process, adapting remuneration agreements based on the specifics of the invention and consultation of external counsel, where necessary (for posting in Germany only)


  • (Industrial) Engineering Degree (TU/TH/UNI/FH)(MS / BS) Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
  • First relevant experience in an engineering organization, preferably in Wind Energy
  • Very good technical understanding and knowledge
  • Affinity to written explanation of technical matters. Very good text comprehension skills and verbal expression of technical circumstances
  • Fluent English speaking and writing skills
  • Ability to work with global teams (India, China, USA, Germany, Mexico)

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in design and operation of frequency converter, electrical generator, grid integration and power transmission is highly appreciated
  • Basic knowledge of patent law, how to read, understand, search for and identify relevant patents. Experience as IP Engineer or Analyst welcomed
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Structured and result oriented work style. Commitment to timely deliverables without compromising quality
  • Fluent in English is required. Knowledge of an additional language, particularly German or Spanish, welcomed
  • Basic knowledge of the law on employees' inventions in Germany (for posting in Germany only)
