The Wind Electrical Systems (WES) Mechanical Design Engineer is part of the wind product and design process and is a key person for successful, high quality NPI execution, fulfillment and field issue resolution.
This role is a global engineering role where the scope of the WES team includes mainly the electrical systems and components for GE wind turbines, but also mechanical components related to the electrical equipment.

Essential Responsibilities

The range of components in scope of the team are generators, power cables, medium voltage switchgears, transformers, electrical tower internals, cable harnesses, slip-rings and aviation lights. Even defined as electrical components, all of them inherit mechanical design aspects. The broad scope of the team provides great opportunity for the WES Mechanical Design Engineer to optimize the overall performance, reliability and cost structure of our wind turbines.

  • Responsible for the development, analysis and improvement of mechanical components used in GE Wind Turbines, mainly related to the electrical system and equipment
  • Supporting the team members on all kinds of mechanical aspects related to their electrical components and assemblies
  • Definition and control of complete technical documentation of components and subassemblies, including specifications, bills of material, drawings and 3D-models
  • Ensure compliance of components and their use to international codes and standards
  • Work with global and cross-functional teams to leverage 'Best Practice' for design and validation procedures
  • Preparation of design / analysis documentation, e.g. Design Practices, design record book articles, Work Desk Instructions (WDI), etc.
  • Support Sourcing organization for new supplier qualification and supplier audits
  • Support root cause analysis on technical issues
  • Work closely with the Technical Leaders and global team members to ensure high quality and on-time delivery for all engineering assignments


    • B.A./M.A. in Mechanical or Structural Engineering, or equivalent
    • Knowledge of structural analysis and FEA tools (e.g. ANSYS, STAAD, Rstab, Infograph, ...)
    • Proficient with design tools like e.g. NX, Pro/E etc
    • Familiar with related international codes and standards
    • Positive mindset with good verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment
    • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
    • Self-motivated
