The Leader for Digital Wind Farm Automation is an integral part of enabling wind product design and applications engineering. This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager of the Electrical, Performance and Validation organization. This role is a global role where the scope ranges from architecting to implementing a platform for wind turbine mechanical loads that results in differentiation in NPI speed and increasing customer value through wind turbine/farm optimization.

Essential Responsibilities

The mechanical loads platform consists of both hardware and software. The hardware is focused on infrastructure for parallel computing, storage, and network. The software covers all aspects of software architecture, application development for parallel computing, database, UX, etc. The team's broad scope of responsibility provides an opportunity to create significant business impact by enabling a step change in product design while enhancing competitiveness of customer bids.

  • Technically lead a global team focused on developing the next generation mechanical loads analysis platform for both NPI and application engineering
  • Set the overall strategic and technical direction of the team
  • Responsible for interfacing with cross functional teams in the various CoEs, Wind Systems, Requisition Engineering, and Commercial Sales to determine and execute platform development in support of new unit NPIs, application engineering for customer bids, and installed base service applications
  • Work across the Renewables teams, for example Product Line, Wind Systems, and CoEs, to translate requirements and vision into prioritized list of user stories to drive hardware and software development
  • Execute and develop projects using agile software development methodology to provide continuous benefits to design and applications teams
  • Define a project and technology execution plan, and lead a large project team to execute to a defined plan and deliverables
  • Work with independent consultants and external resources to drive execution associated with the mechanical loads analysis platform
  • Manage & drive investment decisions in support of the mechanical loads analysis platform
  • Utilize metrics to evaluate status as well as deliverable quality
  • Execute plans for continuous improvement of the platform regarding quality and simplification, and ensure consistency across NPI and application engineering
  • Demonstrate accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives


    • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Applied Science
    • Significant experience in software development
    • Project management of large scale software systems

      • Demonstrated capability to set vision for software platform and corresponding technology investment to drive business outcome
      • Demonstrated experience leading large software systems using agile development methodology
      • Experience in software quality definition, quality process development, and testing strategies to yield issue-free software systems
      • Possess a deep foundation in various aspects of parallel computing and supporting software systems
      • Experience with web application development, front end technologies (e.g., Javascript, HTML5, Angulas JS), databases, both relational and unstructured, various software programming languages, and automated testing
      • Experience with software development infrastructure, software architecture (e.g., GITT, Bamboo), and cloud services
      • Demonstrated ability to coordinate with external suppliers who provide both hardware and software development support.
