The Senior Engineer, Renewable (REN) Engineering Blades, Nacelles & Spinners COE (Center of Excellence) will drive innovation in composite component design for competitiveness in cost and performance.

Essential Responsibilities

• Have cradle-to-grave ownership of large composite wind turbine blades, nacelles and spinners
• Innovate new designs for composite wind components to meet life, performance, and cost CTQs (Critical to Quality) during NPI (New Product Introduction)
• Work actively to streamline design process
• Analyze composite structures using finite element methods
• Develop improved analysis methods for components to enhance robustness of designs
• Direct the creation of and own component drawings
• Support full scale testing of wind blades or sub-article testing
• Create certification documents for components
• Qualify suppliers, support manufacturing issues, and disposition deviations from drawings
• Simplify qualification process
• Support blade and nacelle manufacturing to meet customer fulfillment needs
• Lead RCA (Root Cause Analysis) investigations
• Create and revise design practices
• Support cost-out for existing blades and nacelles
• Interface with Systems, Loads and other global teams to integrate owned components into overall wind turbine system
• Support technology transition from NTI (New Technology Introduction) into NPI components


• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
• Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience

Desired Characteristics

• Solid understanding of general physics and mechanical engineering fundamentals
• Experience in structural mechanical design, such as Ansys
• Experience in Finite Element Analysis
• Proven interpersonal skills in a global team
• Proven written and oral communication skills in the English language
• Experience in structural design of composite components
• Experience with manufacture of composites
• Advanced Degree in Engineering
• Passionate about conceptualizing and developing best-in-class component designs
• Six Sigma Green Belt certified or equivalent quality certification
• Awareness of competing technologies and components in the wind market
