Co-op positions at Jacobs provide college students an opportunity to gain real-world experience in a specific area of study. Projects are typically the design and delivery of capital projects for our pulp & paper and consumer products clients.

In this role, the Co-op performs work which involves conventional design and engineering practice. As part of the process group, the Co-op will be trained and mentored in our capital project delivery work processes where the primary role is to support engineers and designers who are completing the front end process engineering and detail design phases of projects.

  • Utility balances and Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs)
  • Preliminary Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Process control description
  • Preliminary line/pipe list
  • Preliminary instrument list
  • Process equipment list
  • Preliminary Tie-in list
  • Equipment process datasheets
  • Instrument process datasheets
  • Hydraulic design reports
  • Preliminary general arrangement drawings
  • Budget pricing from vendors on major pieces of equipment
  • Process design philosophies
  • Relief system design basis
  • Relief scenario datasheets and relief valve process datasheets
  • Process effluent and emissions summary
  • Process risk analysis (PHA, HAZOP, etc.)

  • Candidate must be currently enrolled in at least their Junior year within an accredited Paper Science and Engineering, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering program
  • Experience with AutoCaD, Microstation, MS Applications (Excel, Word) preferred
  • Prior pulp and papermaking internship experience preferred
  • Ability to plan and prioritize tasks across multiple projects
  • Self-motivated and highly organized with good time management skills
  • Detail oriented work style is required
  • Ability to work in an often fast paced, hectic, and demanding environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge required
  • No relocation or temporary living assistance being offered
  • This Co-op opportunity is for summer 2017 through the end of the first semester of the 2017-2018 school year
