Job Description:

Serves as working leader and is responsible for the following: operates chamber equipment during testing; leads shift operators during maintenance and critical repairs of test chambers and their support equipment; routinely inspects all equipment associated with chambers; monitors facility operations from a PC-based workstation, accesses facility wide information, monitors alarms and responds promptly with the necessary action; attends meetings and works with engineers/testing personnel to ensure demanding test requirements are met; reviews facilities' test schedule and coordinates with test directors to ensure timely delivery of test item; monitors test setup to ensure test does not exceed facility capabilities; monitors test breakdowns to ensure housekeeping requirements are met; reviews equipment operating procedures and provides input for updates; attends meetings as requested; monitors chamber shift operators for compliance with all health, safety, security, environmental and SOP requirements; trains new shift operators to ensure they can perform a safe and efficient operation; interprets blue prints, drawings, diagrams and schematics when required; coordinates with the ATC facility operation specialist/COTR on all aspects of the facilities' operation; provides ATC facility operations specialist/COTR a periodic list of maintenance supplies required to perform maintenance and repairs; documents repairs and maintenance performed; responsible for facility supplies and tool inventory; and monitors Government furnished vehicles and equipment to ensure all operational regulations and procedures are met.

1) Must possess or be capable of obtaining an Ammunition (Ammo 45) Defense Ammunition Center Computer-Based Training Certificate.

2) Must possess or be capable of obtaining an Ammunition Certification Level within 1 yr. of employment.

3) Must possess a EPA Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certification.

4) Must possess a Maryland State HVAC Journeyman's License or equivalent License.

5) Must possess a RETA (CIRCO) Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator or equivalent certification.

8 yrs. applicable experience; or completion of formal training and 6 yrs. applicable experience. 3 yrs. experience leading/supervising.

Essential Functions Form:


Operates wheeled vehicles and material handling equipment such as 4,000 to 15,000 pound forklifts and warehouse cranes. The ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, reach above shoulder level and climb into or under a vehicle is required (up to 50%). Walking a minimum of 50 yards over rough terrain is required (up to 25%). The ability to push and pull as well as lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required (up to 50%).


Work environment will be mostly outside depending on task. The ability to work in outside field conditions that include hot and cold temperatures and other outdoor climatic conditions is required (up to 90%). Must be able to work in areas where only portable restroom facilities are available (up to 25%). Maintenance to equipment will be performed in the field and shop areas. Work environment may be fast-paced and require work under pressure to meet deadlines associated with the completion of a task. Position will require multiple task efforts.


Test equipment which includes generators, portable pumps, field kitchens, engineering bridges, air conditioning/heating units, and field laundries. Operates wheeled vehicles and material handling equipment such as 4,000 to 15,000 pound forklifts and warehouse cranes in support of the test items.


Attendance is critical at all times during normal duty hours. Work outside of normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required with as little as one-hour advance notice.

Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to obtain an interim secret security clearance in order to gain access to required areas, networks and systems within thirty (30) days of date of your offer letter. Must further be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance. Must be able to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Must be able to obtain and retain unescorted access to work areas. Must also receive a physical examination in accordance with the requirements of ATC. May be subject to other physicals or exams if required to wear a respirator or are designated by the COR to have other physicals due to the work area in which you are assigned. Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Must have a valid driver's license and personal transportation for the purpose of moving around the proving ground to accomplish job functions and in order to operate a rental vehicle if and when travel is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a military driver's license within 30 days of employment.
