Rotor, Tower & Control > Rotor Engineering > Blade Component & Assembly Design
BCaAD sits within Rotors Engineering (50 ) which is responsible for the design of the complete Wind Turbine Rotor. This is the engine of the WTG, where wind energy is captured, controlled and converted into Torque. BCaAD is a team of 15 Engineers and Technicians located in Denmark, USA and UK. We are focused on designing the Blades for easy, robust Manufacture. A highly integrated team that works very closely with our Manufacturing colleagues, Production Engineering, Global Sourcing, Structures and Materials. We are a team of 'doers' that make things happen. This 'Can Do' attitude is an essential quality for us all. The Blade Component & Assembly Design (BCaAD) department is effectively the Blades Design for Manufacture (DfM) team. Our role is to Design the Blade Components in a way that ensures easy, repeatable and robust manufacturing, whilst delivering cost competitive structural performance. We are accountable for delivering and maintaining the Design Documentation for the Blades. This includes detailed drawings, assembly drawings, specifications and the Design Bill of Materials. Our job is to provide clear, unambiguous communication of the Design Intent to our Manufacturing colleagues, empowering them to optimize their Manufacturing Process and Tooling within our clear Design Constraints.
The role requires very close collaboration with Production Engineering, Manufacturing, Structural Designers and Prototyping teams to develop the best DfM solutions. The back-bone of our Design Methodology is Design for 6-Sigma (DfSS), which provides the structure and tools to gather the Voice of Customers, select concepts, de-risk & develop designs and manage trials. Our projects range from New Product Development of new Blades to Cost-Out initiatives for existing Blades. All with a strong focus on task execution and timely completion of Project Deliverables. A track record in large composite structures using both Pre-Preg and Resin Infusion technologies is advantageous.
Working very closely with the Structures and CAD teams, you will be designing and re-designing many of the Blade features and details to ensure Ease of Manufacture. This requires practical experience of the consequences of the design and a deep understanding of what works in the Manufacturing Environment. You will collect Voice of Customer from Production and other stakeholders, develop, down-select and de-risk concepts, work with CAD team to create and modify drawings & 3D models, produce specifications, write technical reports, run FMEA's and oversee production trials.
You will drive design changes through our Change Management system with accountability for the drawings, specifications and Design BoM. Your success will be measured by how little change is subsequently required, how well the design performs in production against our specifications and how effectively the change is communicated and specified.
B.Sc. or BEng. in Engineering or Composites related field (or similar)
- Composite Processing knowledge (Pre-preg and Resin Infusion)
- Team player that is able to lead and present their opinions
- Enthusiastic and engaged, willing to go the extra mile
- Strong communication with Operators & Engineers.
- 6-Sigma Green Belt (an advantage)

You will based in either Isle of Wight, UK or Lem, Denmark and will be working with team members in UK, DK & USA. Additionally, you should expect to travel 1 week in 6, mainly between UK and Dk, or to our Blade Factories around the Globe.
