Strategic Assessment Analyst Job Description:

Assessment Analyst must be able to:
  • Provide technical/systems analysis, review, planning, general staff support, database development and input, research, review and evaluation, documentation preparations and production services to complement the campaign assessment process.
  • Incorporate inputs from the Combatant and Functional Commands, Intelligence Community Products, Ambassador and Attaché outreach, USG and Partner nation reports and credible academic studies.
  • Assess the appropriateness of the campaign strategy and effectiveness in achieving DOD campaign objectives and effects.
  • Develop findings and recommendations through a synthesis of quantitative and qualitative inputs for consideration by leadership.
  • Create synergy through alignment of strategies, policies and plans as well as incorporation of DOD and IA inputs into USSOCOM's Strategic Planning Process.
  • Identify Campaign Plan Gaps, Seams and Opportunities for incorporation into Plan updates.
  • Lead assessment working groups, develop agendas and produce minutes following the meeting.
  • Provide expert consultation on staff questions concerning Global Campaign Planning, support preparation of staff packages and presentations for senior decision makers.
  • Develop comprehensive qualitative and quantitative analysis of campaign plan effects in Geographic Combatant Commands.
  • Align campaign assessments along lines similar to higher level National and DOD assessments.
  • Ensure the campaign plan fits in globally and is synchronized with similar efforts.
  • Create a previously absent link to strategic resourcing that prioritizes future efforts.
  • Assess the accomplishments of the GCCs against planned activities.
  • Link annual draft plan revisions with the Strategic Assessment and influence the USSOCOM Strategic Planning Process.
  • Act as the single conduit for inputs to Global Campaign Planning Assessments process.
  • Define approaches and meet timelines to properly inform senior leadership, receive feedback and consolidate responses for senior decision makers.
  • Provide briefings or written products for staffing or information purposes to senior leaders.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements: Master's degree in related field plus eight (8) years of experience SOF-related strategy experience with: various national level strategic planning, assessment and policy guidance documents or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience on the Joint Staff, a Global Combatant Command or Functional Combatant Command or civilian equivalent is required.

Active clearance required with ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Most work will be performed in a cubical environment inside a large facility. Work assignments vary based on client requirements. Some travel may be required based on client requirements.

Physical Requirements

Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC or laptop. Filing required. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 25 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.

Equipment and Machines

General office equipment, which includes: telephone, fax machine, copier, PC/laptop, and other miscellaneous office equipment. Microsoft Office Suite of products to include Project and Visio.


Onsite (MacDill AFB) attendance required; must be able to work at least 8 hours a day for 5 days per week (Monday through Friday).

Other Essential Functions

Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Must be well organized with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to interface effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Grooming and dress usually business casual, but dependent on client's standards. Must not pose a safety hazard to employees working in the same general area.
