We are seeking an experienced Substation/Engineering Designer to join our team in Novi, MI. Someone who is eager to work in a fast-paced environment, and willing to work cohesively with a project team to deliver quality substation designs to our clients. As a Substation Designer, you will be challenged to trouble-shoot, investigate, and solve a variety of electrical engineering/design issues. You will be the cornerstone of project execution; this requires someone with accountability, dedication, and desire to succeed. A candidate with a high attention to detail is crucial in this position, as you will be required to perform quality checks and reviews. Strong communication and interpersonal skills is a must, as you will be reporting to project managers, directing designers, and CADD/ designer staff. Additionally, you will be responsible for interfacing directly with clients and other staff in remote office locations. Assignments cover the full range of project planning through design and construction support. Design work may range from 12.5kV through 500kV projects.

Required education/experience:

o Bachelor's of Science degree. High School diploma and 4 additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
o Minimum of 5+ years relevant experience in high voltage electrical utility substation physical engineering/design and experience with:
• Substation layouts, general arrangement plan, and sections
• Conduit layout and design, and conduit fill calculations
• Equipment selection and specification
• Ground grid design and analysis
• Lightning protection design
• Equipment selection and specification
o Previous Quality Assurance/Quality Control experience is a plus
o Familiarity with substation design and protective relaying
o Familiarity with preparation of design drawings and specifications
o Ability to meet deadlines under pressure situations
o Team player who can work effectively in team environment;
o Self-starter who can work independently with minimal direction
o Strong written and verbal communication skills required when interfacing with clients and staff
o High level of computer competency
o Experience with AutoCAD or Microstation
