The Lead Electrical Engineer (Transmission) is responsible for technical leadership and training to discipline engineers in substation and/or transmission line projects and significantly assisting in winning new work and maintaining existing client relationships

About the opportunity
  • Prepare scope of work and engineering methodology sections of project proposals and develop time and cost estimates to complete the works;
  • Lead or support client presentations and other interactions
  • Provide technical support to the Client's operations (when required) suggesting improvements and upgrades and promoting innovation, safety and sustainability.
  • Fosters and maintains professional relationships with clients and their representatives, building confidence and mutual respect.
  • Good working knowledge of key areas in HV/EHV Substation design, minimum 132 KV including:
  • Single Line Diagram;
  • Site layout
  • Primary Equipment selection;
  • Secondary and protection systems;
  • Good working knowledge of key areas in Transmission Line design (preferred but not mandatory), including:
  • Route selection requirements;
  • Line profile drawings;
  • Creep and sag/tension calculations;
  • Clearance requirements;
  • Conductor & insulator selection;
  • Earthing design;
  • PLS CADD software
  • Prepare preliminary designs, specifications and documentation for substation and/or transmission line works
  • Review contractor design documentation and project implementation schedules/procedures
  • Prepare and review capital cost estimates
  • Carry out field activities such as site inspection, observations, measurements, etc, and prepare assessment reports
  • Manage transmission project deliverables and schedule within a multi-discipline design or consulting project (substation and/or transmission line)
  • Maintain an ongoing working relationship with the senior multi-discipline engineers within Malaysia and other countries.

About you

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Member of an Engineering Institute (preferably professionally registered with BEM or equivalent)
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar role with a minimum of 132KV
  • Availability and willingness to travel within the Asia region for project meetings and site inspections, where required
  • Ability to work both independently and in larger project teams, including virtual teaming with overseas offices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness and ability to work as part of a multi discipline team
  • Well-developed report writing skills and ability to prepare design reports using Company QA guidelines and procedures.
  • Understanding of HSE regulations and construction standards
