Description
Xcel Energy is looking to hire a Senior Analyst to join our External Financial Reporting team in Minneapolis, MN. This position will present challenges in a variety of duties that will enable the
successful candidate to learn and grow with the company.
 
The primary responsibility of this position is leading and completing in the accurate and timely reporting of financial statement information for SEC Filings, FERC filings and other reports. This position will communicate with all levels of management and work closely with various internal customers including, budgeting and forecast, regulatory affairs, regulatory accounting, account representatives, and internal and external auditors. This position will be responsible for leading in various projects and process improvements. Proven leadership abilities, project management experience, and problem solving abilities skills are required. Excellent system skills and communication skills are a must. CPA or CMA certification preferred, but not required for this position.
 
Three years of Big 4 public accounting experience is required and will be considered equivalent to five years general financial accounting experience in a corporate environment.
 
Summary
Leads and coordinates financial business processes. Generates and/or reviews various internal and external reports and tax filings. Provides in-depth analysis of data and results. Can identify impact of
results and communicate to management. Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of accounting, tax and ratemaking principles, practices and procedures. Understands and can apply general accounting rules, SEC and FERC rules, and various state jurisdictional rules as needed. Takes ownership of assigned internal financial and accounting process controls. Drives the processes required to comply with agreements and orders. Possesses a thorough understanding of the business.
 
Essential Responsibilities
  • Develops and coordinates the financial analysis required to meet accounting and business periodic deadlines.
  • Produces and/or distributes internal and external financial reports and tax filings. Takes responsibility for accuracy of information.
  • Thoroughly understands processes and systems used to complete work. Understands the interactions of various cross-functional systems and processes as well. Can identify issues and make recommendations for global solutions.
  • Shares knowledge of systems and procedures, commonly provides training to others.
  • Stays current with applicable local, state, federal rules and regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Involved in the implementation of changes needed to adapt to new or revised rules.
  • Owns and is held responsible for assigned internal financial and accounting process controls.
  • Completes complex accounting/financial projects, and presents conclusions. Actively seeks problem resolutions and process improvements.

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related business degree or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
  • 5 years general financial accounting and reporting experience with an emphasis on complex accounting issues, processes and multiple company accounting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply GAAP
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business and legal principles
  • Demonstrated analytical and communication skills
  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access
 
Preferred
  • CPA or CMA certification preferred and may be required for some positions
  • Knowledge of and experience working with SAP highly desirable
