Successful candidate will be responsible for providing Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Basic Life Support (BLS) and safe, efficient transportation of ill or injured subjects to receiving Hospitals by ambulance. Must be able to respond to alarms and emergency situations, which include structural firefighting, removal of people from potentially dangerous situations, rendering emergency medical assistance, and responding to hazardous materials emergencies. Firefighter will operate tools and equipment typically associated with firefighting duties, perform daily inspections of firefighting equipment, conduct salvage operations, conduct fire inspections, identify hazards associated with materials and construction features, demonstrate emergency medical techniques for lifesaving, attend daily drills and meetings, perform fire station maintenance to include cleanliness. Must be able to operate fire department vehicles as required. Perform all other normal duties typically associated with being a firefighter and the directions of management or lead personnel. Must be able to wear a breathing apparatus and pass a physical exam. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance. Must submit to pre-employment and random drug screening tests. Must pass a written examination for firefighters.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Must have current EMT-P License from the State of NM and provide evidence of current EMS Bureau approved current PALS and ACLS certifications. Must obtain PHTLS certification within 12 months of hire. Must have current certification to NFPA - 1001 (NM/IFSAC Firefighter I) and meet the current requirements of a NASA/WSTF Firefighter.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION

Must pass a physical agility entry test for firefighters. Positions may involve extended periods of sitting or standing. Physical requirements are: sitting, walking, standing, use of stairs, and access to remote structures. Typically required to drag up to 185 pounds a minimum of 100 feet.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT

Position is located on a hazardous testing facility operated by NASA. Employees must comply with all NASA and company safety guidelines and policies. Firehouse (indoors) and field work (outdoors) is required. Must be able to travel to other work areas, be aware of safety requirements for those areas, and work within those constraints (e.g. access procedures and proper PPE). Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS

Computer work will be required. Use of calculator, printer, fax, scanner, telephone, filing cabinets, and other standard office equipment is required. Use of equipment and machinery typically associated with firefighting and hazardous materials is required.

CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance and punctuality as scheduled is required. Overtime may be required as determined by management or customer needs.

OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must exhibit professional behavior in all interaction with peers/management and with customers. Must work well under pressure to meet deadlines. Dress must be appropriate for the position and not pose a safety risk or hazard to the employee or others in accordance with NASA and Company policies. Occasional travel may be required. Must be a U.S Citizen. Must possess a valid state driver's license. Must pass a Federal background investigation. Must be able to pass a physical examination as determined by the NASA White Sands Test Facility and the Company for the job classification. Must submit to pre-employment drug testing. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
