The Test Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day support of automotive fuel system component testing in the Lansing, Michigan area.

The selected candidate will be required to become familiar and comply with Jacobs and Client policies for safety, security, and the rules associated with outside contractors working on-site.

The ideal candidate must a self-starter that can work independently with minimal supervision, but will also function as a member of a team.

This position will have direct, daily interface with client engineering staff and external customers. General responsibilities include:

• Performs the more specialized mechanical and/or electrical tests on fuel system components or series of components.

• Maintains records on work performed, analyzes data collected, reports results

• Installs, operates and maintains laboratory Class I Division II explosion proof test equipment and instrumentation.

• Develops and builds shop or laboratory test fixtures some utilizing Allen Bradley control systems.

• Repairs experimental or prototype products or components to correct malfunction.

• Maintains good housekeeping, safety practices and supplies.

• Act as single point contact with outside customers for all contracted work.

• Analyzes problems involving the gathering and interpreting of data.

• Research and specify mechanical and electrical componentry on Class I Div II test equipment.

• Develop specific cost quotes for all outside contracted customer work.

• Write test reports including compiling all test data for outside contracted work.

Services will be delivered at a client facility in Lansing, MI.
Bachelor's Degree in an engineering/ scientific discipline with a minimum of 1 year of engineering experience or a combination of 2 years of relevant work experience with Junior level status in pursuit of BS degree. Preference will be given to those with detailed experience in automotive testing, failure analysis and root cause identification . The successful candidate must possess an aptitude either in electrical/electronic, instrumentation, and or mechanical systems. Fabrications skills are desirable. The candidate must be able to read and interpret technical literature and manufacturers specifications. Strong verbal and written communications skills accompanied by good organizational skills.

• Be able to work independently and seek to expand knowledge in all assigned areas
• Be capable of safely stopping work when interrupted
• Properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, and other gear, as required.
• Have experience using Matlab/Simulink (nice to have)
