A Data Analysis Technician (DAT 1) receives, processes, analyzes, and reports data with accuracy. Researches with knowledge of DoD directives or regulations, policies, and guidelines for making Distribution Statements on technical documents and engineering technical requirements related to the technical data configuration of major weapon systems. Reviews and audits new and revised data to ensure compliance with Government support agreement requirements. Technical data is both accepted and disseminated via multiple media in multiple data formats. Ensures technical data is complete and tracks data deficiencies to verify the completeness and accuracy of the data before release. Routinely interfaces with customers, managers and technical representatives in fulfilling all technical information responsibilities for technical data. As instructed, resolves common operating problems. May serve as an assistant computer operator working under close supervision or performing a portion of a more senior operator's work.

Technology: A DAT's technology emphasis should be to:
  • Maintain skill sets in the hardware/software being used to accomplish customer tasks
  • Maintain an awareness of technical knowledge to best accommodate the needs of the tasks

Leadership/Direction: Work requires the application of experience and judgment in selecting procedures to be followed and in searching for, interpreting, selecting, or coding items to be entered from a variety of source documents. On occasion may also perform routine work as described for Level I. Activities will be directed, monitored, outlined, and supervised by a more senior data analysis technician or team leader.

Activities: A DAT 1 should have exhibited capabilities as those identified below. Familiarity with personal computers and peripherals, with 3 or more year's applicable experience. Knowledge in configuration management and military policies and procedures in order to support data acceptance is required. A DAT 1 should also be able to support technical data operations in the areas of contractor requests or customer requests and in the preparation of packages in support of spares acquisition.

Additional activities include:
  • Ensure Contractor Request are responded to within 10 business days. Also ensure FOIA
  • Requests are responded to within 3 business days.
  • Ensure turnaround time for completion of Live Data Deliveries not to exceed 25 days.
  • To complete at least 2 TopVue (Weapon System BE) packages per week depending on package size.
  • To respond to in-house Data Request in support of the Tech Loop within 24 hrs.
  • Increase output in EDIS Cleanup working in EDIS by doing two Batches with 200 documents each per week.
  • Establish a Goal of 2 Livedata/or FOIA per week in order to maintain my skill in this area.
  • Turnaround time for completion of Live Data Deliveries not to exceed 25 days. This can be tracked through reports in DCS.
  • To submit Distribution Verifications for Patriot System as they are received. This can be tracked through reports in DCS.
  • To Review and Respond to MEARS-Pre-Reviews within 5 Days of Notification.
  • Provide on-site support for the customer's technical data projects.
  • Support tasks addressing data delivery problems, automation problems, and business process issues.
  • Analyze problems, evaluate alternatives and coordinate problem resolution with various agencies, weapon system contractors and others as needed.
  • In some cases, provide quality assurance (QA) of scanned and electronically transferred images, ensuring good quality of scanned and electronic images before inclusion into the automated file repository by inspecting engineering images on multiple media types.
  • Distribute new and/or revised engineering data on various media types containing data images. May also be required to maintain appropriate manual and automated logs for tracking and management reporting.
The candidate must have 2 years relevant experience. The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance is required.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Inside office environment. Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers and all levels of management (100%).

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk (90%). Requires sitting at a computer terminal for long periods of time (90%). There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work area walking moderate to long distances can sometimes be required. Must be able to lift and carry 15 lbs.

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, copier, and other general office equipment (100%). Ability to conduct evaluation of third and fourth generation or current state of the art computer hardware and software and its ability to support specific requirements, interfacing with other equipment and systems.


Attendance is critical. Work hours are normally 8 hours per day and 5 days per week, Monday through Friday. Being prompt is important to provide continuous and on-going service to customers. Attendance is important to maintain continuity of service. Work outside of normal duty hours may be required with as little as one hour advance notice.

Other Essential Functions:

Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must be able to obtain and retain a security clearance. Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be able to obtain unescorted access to work areas. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance is required.
