Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Discipline Director, Senior Project Architect, or Discipline Specialist, this role researches, programs, plans, designs, and administers building projects for clients, applying knowledge of architectural design, construction detailing, construction procedures, zoning and building codes, and building materials for clients according to their desires, needs, and financial resources.

  • Plans and programs layout of healthcare project(s); coordinates and integrates all other discipline elements into unified design for client review and approval
  • Assisting in the development and application of a consistent standardized approach to defining and solving healthcare planning issues
  • Development of healthcare master plans and functional space plans for major healthcare projects
  • Performs work of complex scope
  • Conducts periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with detailed design documents
  • Prepares quantitative data (e.g. material take-offs) to support construction cost estimates
  • Monitors architectural project scope development and changes, tracking adjustments to the projected project construction cost
  • May prepare client project presentations studies, and reports
  • Represents organization, with internal and external personnel, on significant matters
  • Utilizes computer-assisted design software and equipment to prepare project designs and plans
  • May direct activities of workers engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents for the Conceptual Design Phase, Schematic Design Phase, and/or the Detailed Design Phase of a project
  • Design work to be reviewed and stamped by a Registered Architect
  • Periodic travel to construction sites should be anticipated
  • 4+ years' experience in healthcare planning projects is required
  • BA/BS or Bachelors in Architecture is required
  • Architecture registration or Intern Development Program candidate is required
  • Demonstrated program experience in the usage of Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, basic rendering and publishing programs, and Microsoft Office suite are required
  • Familiarity with building code requirements is required
  • Thorough knowledge of Guidelines for the Design and Construction of Healthcare Facilities, NFPA requirements, CMS/JACHO accreditation guidelines as well as State Departments of Health regulations
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the functional and spatial organization of various healthcare departments and services
  • Demonstrable experience in the development of Facility Master Plans
  • Demonstrable record a professional track record of establishing long lasting relationships with clients
  • Forward thinking and ability to articulate clear vision and understanding of trends in healthcare design
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks and be results-focused tempered with a team-centered approach.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with internal architectural and engineering team members is required
  • Be experienced in the preparation of reports and information using software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience in developing space programs utilizing workload data from market share analysis and application of industry standard key planning units
  • Proficiency in the use of estimating, scheduling, programming tools
  • Possess an analytical approach with high-level problem-solving ability
  • Master's Degree in Architecture is preferred
  • Project Management experience is preferred
  • Participation in professional organizations is preferred
  • NCARB certification preferred
  • LEED accreditation preferred; EDAC certification a plus
