Our Sustainable Solutions Business Unit provides a focus for advising our clients on sustainability issues including renewable energy, low carbon economies, impacts of climate change and waste and resource management. Our environmental capabilities comprise of in excess of 700 staff based predominantly in the UK, but with reach into the Middle East.

We have an immediate requirement for a motivated and hardworking environmental professional to work on a strategically important complex project. Based within our Responsible Business team you will focus on delivering environmental assessment and management consultancy to clients in the nuclear and defence sectors.

Primary Responsibilities

Working as part of our team to identify and assess a project's environmental aspects and impacts, and to produce whole life management and improvement plans, you will be expected to:
  • Understand the objectives, priorities and inter-dependencies of project stakeholders and be able to manage and reflect these in the reports and assessments we produce.
  • Identify potential health and safety hazards of specific projects and demonstrate a commitment to your own safety and that of those around you.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Write and check deliverables (reports, proposals, work specifications, etc).
  • Thinking both creatively and logically to resolve design and development problems

  • A relevant degree in a pure or applied science
  • Relevant industry experience.
  • An awareness and understanding of environmental aspects and impacts associated with industrial processes and project development.
  • Strong organisational skills and the awareness to prioritise key tasks when appropriate.
  • Excellent written and oral communication - the ability to produce well-researched and presented reports is essential
  • Strong attention to detail and an ability to apply knowledge into practical schemes

  • Appreciation of environmental constraints and impacts as they affect procurement and development of defence capability
  • Experience of Environmental Management Systems and experience of or familiarity with Environmental Impact Assessment and application in a manufacturing or industrial context.
  • Experience of waste and materials management.
  • Familiarity in the preparation of policy documents and best practice guidance
  • Experience of optioneeering and the application of Best Available Techniques.
