Innovation & Concept Development
The Innovation & Concept Development (I&C) department has the charter to drive rapid, fear-less exploration and incubation of disruptive solutions in the service of Vestas' goal to be the undisputed global wind leader. We work with our colleagues in the Technology & Service Solutions (TSS) organization to bring commercially relevant, game changing ideas to the market in a profitable way; we drive TSS' technology strategy and road mapping, the discovery and incubation of new technology and product concepts as well as foster external networks to harness the world's creativity .

Your main responsibilities will be to model, measure and/or design solutions for complex flow problems in a Wind energy system, from micro-scale to meso-scale flows; collaborating across the Vestas TSS organization, you will lead technology initiatives to create, develop and take to proof-of-concept, novel ideas that push the boundary of aero and thermal performance or significantly alter the costs of attaining them.

In addition, your responsibilities will cover to:
  • Maintain and feed the fluid dynamics innovation pipeline by proactively using networks across academia and the R&D community in the aero, fluid dynamics, thermal management and CAE communities.
  • Support and augment Vestas' technology roadmaps in Turbine and Powerplant functions where fluid and thermal technologies have a big impact.

  • You probably have a Masters' degree, and preferably a Ph.D. in Wind, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or similar relevant disciplines with focus around fluid and thermal sciences
  • You have demonstrated disciplinary depth via several years of experience within R&D or product design and technology functions, preferably in the Wind, Aerospace, Energy or Automotive industries.
  • You have demonstrated depth and expertise in fluid dynamics, aero/thermal concept development and design, with experience in adjacencies like aeromechanics, aero-acoustics or thermal management.
  • You have experience across the methods spectrum - analytical, computational and experimental; strong analytical and computational skills that are reflected in a record of being able to execute and drive concept development using a range of methods from simple 1D/2D methods, network solvers to hi-fidelity CAE tools.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in state-of-the-art aerodynamic and thermal design and analysis tools across full range of fidelity - e.g., from analytical methods to Vortex methods for blades to hi-fidelity CFD coupled to a proven "designer" and problem-solver bent of mind
  • Familiarity and experience designing and driving wind tunnel or other lab scale and TRL5/6 platform test campaigns
  • Training in DFSS, robust design and/or exposure to structural design and design for manufacturability principles will be a plus
  • Experience in developing, augmenting with physical models, and running system-level synthesis codes (e.g., Turbine multi-body dynamics or aero elastic codes like Flex, VTS and HAWC2) in addition to disciplinary expertise in aero/fluid dynamics is desired.
  • A broad understanding of a Wind Energy systems, their primary components and functions, interactions and impact of new technologies on techno-economic metrics.
  • It is important that you possess both an exceptional work ethic as well as a passion for technology and innovation; the latter reflected in a record of creating and/or taking ideas from conception to maturation, incl. lab and field testing
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment, often with colleagues distributed globally, with little or no supervision

Additional information
Work location will preferably be at Vestas Technology & Service Solutions Headquarter in Aarhus, Denmark.

You will work close together with colleagues globally in Vestas, engage in technology scouting and create/maintain partner networks outside Vestas, so approximately 40 travelling days per year may be expected.
