Department Description
The Engineering department's role is to optimize wind turbine performance and reliability by providing engineering support for construction and maintenance through troubleshooting, root cause analysis, solution development, engineering project management and customer support.

Responsibilities
  • Understands product technology around drivetrain, bearings, hydraulics, etc. To a substantial degree and be able to communicate with customer's engineers and consultants as a subject matter expert on such topics.
  • Develops and maintains region-specific technical documentation in support of mechanical systems.
  • Conducts root cause analysis for mechanical systems component failures and prepares formal reports.
  • Develops cost effective technical solutions for mechanical systems issues.
  • Works within multi-discipline teams to solve complex mechanical, electrical and structural problems.
  • Provides technical guidance to other engineers within the department.
  • Able to present technology at conferences and generally recognized to be a regional technology expert in supporting Vestas commercial operations.
  • Participates in industry groups supporting wind technology. In some instances it will be necessary to lead or influence some key industry groups.
  • Evaluates construction-related issues regarding turbine installation.
  • Reviews construction Requests for Information (RFIs) for contractor installation modification requests.
  • Prepares and maintains necessary drawings, specifications, and documents for project installations and continuous improvement projects associated with construction.
  • Completes corrective action projects to analyze and resolve field failures of mechanical systems/components for wind turbine generators.
  • Responds to technical inquiries from service personnel, project managers, and external customers.
  • Prepares and maintains necessary drawings, specifications, and documents for wind turbine generator maintenance and continuous improvement projects associated with in-service turbines.
  • Coordinates/assists with Vestas Wind Systems Research & Development in Denmark as required for wind turbine component upgrades and retrofits.
  • Manages testing and inspection work going on in the North American region to assist R&D with ongoing improvement testing.
  • Designs or assists in the design of special tools, rigging and lifting devices for wind turbine up tower repairs. Ensures compliance with ASME, AISC, AWS and similar codes.
  • Provides support for suppliers/vendors manufacturing special tools, rigging and lifting devices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer
  • Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering Preferred
  • Considerable experience in engineering problem solving
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Strong aptitude with mechanical engineering fundamentals: stress analysis, machine design, power transmission, and hydraulic systems.
  • High level of proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD - Autocad and Creo preferred.
  • Considered by peers to be a top performer
  • Travel required as an essential element of job: 15%
