Position Description
The Head of Technical Services supervises and participates in the procurement, organization, processing, and maintenance of library materials; coordinates maintenance of the library's online catalog and performs related professional, supervisory, and administrative work as required, including participation in the library's management team, special projects, staff development, budgeting, and strategic planning. This position also coordinates automation operations throughout the library, including hardware and software planning and deployment and automation support services for both staff and public users.

Minimum Requirements
A master's degree in library and information science from an accredited program.
Knowledge of standards and practices for cataloging and classification.
Knowledge of standard practices and procedures for library acquisitions in multiple formats including electronic resources.
Developed familiarity with collection development processes and procedures.
Well-developed understanding of technological issues impacting library services and programs.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
A minimum of 5 years of previous professional library technical services experience preferred.
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Bilingual ability in Arabic and English preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities
This position's primary responsibility is the coordination of the library's technical service functions to optimize production levels for acquisitions, cataloging, and collection development.
Management responsibility for technical services involves fiscal oversight of operations, personnel management of Library Technical Services employees and coordination of collection development with the overall goals and objectives of the library.
Management responsibility for library systems involves strategic planning for automation systems and services, oversight of both technical and customer support services, and fiscal management of operations and service evaluation for reporting and strategic planning.

Additional preferred qualifications:
Additional language competencies in major European languages.
Experience with library systems management that includes both library discovery systems and integrated library systems.
Understanding of the structure and data schemes of an integrated online library system.
Experience with the management of IT operations in a public use context.
