Test, repair, operate, and modify lifting equipment in compliance with federal OSHA, ASME, and recognized National Standards.  Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all types of rigging equipment to include non-mobile overhead cranes, chain falls, come-alongs, slings, spreader bars, shackles, lifting eyes and miscellaneous rigging equipment. Must have knowledge and experience with indoor overhead cranes.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Repair, troubleshoot and reassemble lifting equipment (to include but not limited to overhead cranes, chain falls, come-alongs, slings, spreader bars, shackles and lifting eyes)
  • Perform load testing for rigging and moving large loads
  • Perform preventive maintenance on overhead cranes and lifting equipment
  • Provide replacement parts information on proper documentation to Crane Lead for ordering
  • Work in conjunction with coordinator, lead and foreman in planning scheduled repair work
  • Write, organize and update repair reports, to include crane maintenance records
  • Interpret and apply blueprints, maintenance manuals, and technical manuals
  • Extensive knowledge of the use/application of rigging hardware, chain falls, and lever operated hoists
  • Willing to work at heights routinely
  • Ensure during inspection, testing, repair, operation, and modifications that below the hook lifting equipment complies with federal OSHA, ASME, and recognized National Standards
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Possess a wide range of mechanical knowledge of hoists and non-mobile cranes.
  • Knowledge of rigging hardware, chain falls, and various hoists.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance of bearings, shafts, gears, pulleys and pneumatics
  • Understanding of instrumentation, electrical, and pneumatic systems for proper diagnosis of mechanical troubleshooting cranes.
  • Ability to routinely work at heights, use harnesses and climb ladders.
  • Ability to operate box vans and / or flat-bed trucks.
  • Ability to use various hand, power and pneumatic tools.
  • Able to be self-directed with minimal supervision and to work as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Able to maintain crane maintenance records
  • Ability to communicate safety warnings, instructions, and task assignments
  • Ability to read and understand schematic, blueprint/drawings, job descriptions, maintenance/safety/technical manuals and safety/warning signs
  • Understanding of instrumentation, air and electrical knowledge in order to repair pneumatic systems and communicate with electricians
Physical Demand/Work Environment:

  • Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear.
  • Lift 40 lbs. from floor to knuckles with one hand x 2 with a 12 second interval
  • Lift 40 lbs. from floor to waist x 2 with a 12 second interval
  • Lift 40 lbs. from floor to crown x 5, with 12 second intervals
  • Carry: Carry 35 lbs. with two hands for 50 feet x 2. Self-paced, but continuous. (Allow a 60 second rest break between carry tests.)
  • Push horizontally at waist level - 86 lbs. peak force (e.g., Peak push force to move tool cart 50 feet)
  • Stairs: Climb up and down 15 steps per flight x 10 for a total of 150 steps. Self-paced, continuous. Allow a 60 second rest break after climbing up and down each set of 50 steps.)
  • Slanted Ladder: Climb up and down 10 rungs x 6 for a total of 60 rungs. Self-paced, but continuous. (Allow a 60 second rest break after climbing up and down 30 rungs.),
  • Repetitive Kneeling Test: Perform from standing, kneel on one knee, alternate from left to right knee, x 5 each knee
  • Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 5, self-paced, but continuous
  • Repetitive Squat Test: Perform a functional squat and stand x 5
  • Twist and Flex Test: Perform from standing alternate toe touches x 5 to each side to assess ability to twist and flex the trunk repetitively

The minimum qualifications for this position are:
  • Possess training certification to inspect non-mobile cranes, wire rope, chain falls or come-a-longs 100 lbs. to 75 tons
  • Qualified in Under the Hook Lifting within 90 days
  • Valid driver's license required and ability to be insured by CH2M's auto insurer
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
  • Manlift and Scaffold User training
  • One (1) year of experience with inspection, installation, maintenance and repair of non-mobile cranes, wire rope, chain falls and come-a-longs 100 lbs. to 75 tons
  • One (1) year Windows based computer skills, including proficiency with Word, Excel, and Access database

Candidates must successfully complete all required pre-employment requirements including physical, drug screen and background check

Attainment of a North Slope Training Certification (NSTC) via completion of modules
