A Houston oil and gas company gave a whopping bonus check to all of his employees this year. And now the charitable tale has gone viral just in time for the holiday season.
The Houston Chronicle named Hilcorp one of the city's top workplaces in 2015 partially because of the lucrative employee benefits. Workers earned the $100,000 bonus after meeting company goals. The privately owned business run by billionaire Jeffrey Hildebrand doled out the six-figure checks after Hilcorp hit three major benchmarks in five years.
The award came after Hilcorp doubled oil field production rates, net oil and gas reserves and equity value over five years. CFO Shelbie Dezell described the bonus check (prorated based on how long employees have worked at the company over the past five years) as a life-changing event for the company’s 1,399 employees. In an article published on Chron.com in November, Dezell said “some used the money to pay off debt, others to fund college for their children, and still others to purchase new homes.”
The story has been highlighted in the few weeks in national publications like Forbes, USA Today and Mic as a paradigm of holiday cheer.
